I think its a Hayman - a British manufacturer that later became Shergold. The body shape is of a Shergold Marathon (as played in six-string version by Hooky IIRC) but the Marathon had neater pickups/controls. So pretty sure its a Hayman, probably early 70s

Yeh, a Hayman 4040. I had one of these in the early '70s and it was a very nice bass as I recall. Bought brand new for £155 (I think I still have the receipt somewhere!!)

That's me with the Hayman at the East London Festival (c.1973/4). My bass rig behind me was an HH IC100 head and a HiWatt 2x15 bass bin (a big old bugger! ).

Incidentally, can anyone recognise the bit of backdrop in the left of the picture and what (Prog rock) album cover it comes from? :)

Are they back to the full original line up yet or is Dammers still being arsey?

The Specials were probably my first favourite band aged 10 or so. Over a weekend all the lads at junior school became mini rude boys, tassled loafers, 2-tone tonik sta-prest, Fred Perry and a grade 4 hair cut. Happy days.

Anyone know what bass that is? Never seen a bass with pickups placed like that...[/quote]

Doesn't sound as good as Horace's Precision ;-)

Thanks for reminding of my fave era of music, since you posted it I've learned "message to you Rudy", "Lip up fatty", "Night boat to Cairo", "tears of a clown" and I'm just struggling with the fast bit of skinhead moonstomp lol

Currently composing an ad for partysounds to see if there are any twotone era tribute bands that want a bass player... OMG I love ska/rudeboy

Jerry always insisted he would never go back and even turned down £1 million to play at Crystal Palace chairman
Simon Jordan's birthday party.

The past year has seen the rest of the band in some very tense negotiations, fights, walk-outs and strops
but the Bestival reunion was aweome and the tour will sell out in minutes.
