fleabag Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Never seen an Alembic J bass before. Assuming it's geniune, i like this bad boy a lot. Not the price though https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alembic-Jazz-Bass-4-String-Custom-Spalted-Maple/172850782957?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20190212142712%26meid%3D4700ca91e1e44125baf0784b49d3eda2%26pid%3D100037%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D173798577418%26itm%3D172850782957&_trksid=p2047675.c100037.m2107 Quote
fleabag Posted February 20, 2019 Author Posted February 20, 2019 And another - same seller, but this time a P/J. Never seen these before either https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alembic-Jazz-Bass-4-String-Custom-Buckeyed-Burl/172850784101?_trkparms=aid%3D444000%26algo%3DSOI.DEFAULT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20170221122447%26meid%3D95be601247984de1b6f6130cb096517b%26pid%3D100752%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D172850782957%26itm%3D172850784101&_trksid=p2047675.c100752.m1982 Quote
BigRedX Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 The bridge pickups on both those basses are much closer to the bridge than normal. Quote
ped Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 These basses have been on eBay for as long as I can remember. Quote
Happy Jack Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 We can sale this Bass for £4695.00 including case. But for that sort of money, don't expect us to speech English. 1 3 Quote
TheGreek Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 As Ped suggests, been available for longer than I've been a member here. Quote
Bassassin Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Amazingly I've never seen these before, considering how long I've been trawling Ebay. Can only assume the placement of the decimal point might be influencing my search results! I'ved always wondered why I'd never seen any J-based neck-throughs, considering several Japanese manufacturers made P-derived versions in the late 70s & early 80s. If these were MIJ and about £4500 cheaper, I'd be all over them! Quote
fleabag Posted February 20, 2019 Author Posted February 20, 2019 Yep, despite ped and mick stating on sale forever, i've never seen them before. I'm not generally trawling ebay for basses, so that maybe a good reason Quote
ped Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 I owned an Alembic years ago and remember finding them then - aways wondered about them but quite an expensive gamble - and I'm not actually keen on the look. I have a love/hate relationship with Alembics.. I haven't played one that clicks yet but assume there's one out there somewhere! Quote
Bassassin Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 I could live with the inlays & the spalted top on the J/J. Wouldn't want that hardware or pickup placement, though. Quote
jazzyvee Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 There have been a number of alembic J style basses come up on ebay over the years and yes those two have been listed for sale for a heck of a lot of years. In face bass direct had one not too long ago ok yes i just checked and its still here. That is a beauty. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Alembic_Custom_4.html Quote
Dan Dare Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 For that kind of lolly, I'd have a Fodera. Quote

TheGreek Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 American Guitar Centre has some nice, if a bit expensive, gear. Quote
prowla Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 The bass is new and has over £2000 of free custom options. Quote

Bassassin Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Snodland??? Talk about incongruous. I saw "American Guitar Centre" and thought, well - America. Quote

NikNik Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 Spotted this oddball this morning. Yuk, no thanks. Alembic Jazz Quote
prowla Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 I have to say that Alembic have produced some ugly basses; nice wood and workmanship, but I've never particularly wanted one. Quote

JackPlug Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 Hey guys, I was just stumbling the forums and saw this thread! For those interested in what the P/J actually sounds like, I've done a demo video! I bought the one from Bass Direct! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQoAiS_WuVI&frags=pl%2Cwn I agree that some Alembics are an acquired taste and there a few questionable designs, however, there are some extremely pretty ones out there! Jazzyvee has some extremely nice basses as do some of my other Alembic pals! Anyway, if you watch the video, I hope you like it, cheers! 3 Quote
