When I raised it a little it sounded so much better but as the string sustained, it then vibrated into an annoying buzz. So I raised it some more and the buzz went and its now sounding good. However the D started to do the same so I just raised that a little and its ok again. Now I have the measurements and know where to measure from, I can check what the actual heights are. Yep - it's counterintuitive, but sometimes raising the string height can make the bass easier to play as you don't need to play as hard to get the sound you're looking for.

I'm not really using it anymore so might consider selling it including a few dozen IR's I've collected. How well does it work with fretless bass guitar? Maybe you don't need the electric upright after all 🙂

I'm guessing that with a decent pickup/amp setup an IR isn't really worth it for live situations..... I mostly play double bass now but on the odd occasion I use a Yamaha SLB I get a good enough sound without the IR's.

YKRJohn
Hi All, I have a 804 liking it somewhat so far (had it about 6 months) 2 questions for other owners: Is the truss rod 2 way? I have tried to loosen the truss rod but seem to hit a solid wall when trying - don't want to "swing" on the hex key too much - is there something like a locking nut I am overlooking? And secondly has anyone tried the Rotosound true Bass 88s on one of these, do they fit without nut filing? Thanks in advance John 🙂
4mal
Welcome back old thread, we missed ya 🙂 I started gigging a UB-804 a couple of weeks ago. Really liking it a lot. I'm an EB player not URB. I switch between a short scale EB and the UB-804 throughout the night. Depends on the groove and how challenging my vocal part is as the which I switch too. I'm running a small pedal board with wireless receiver for the EB into a Korg 2 channel tuner the handles the A/B switching. Output goes to a SushiboxFX Underground Accellerator. That brings up the level for the UB and provides a bass boost and mids boost. That is off for the EB so I have a 2 button tap damce when switching. From the Sushibox I go to a Cali 76 Compact Bass Compressor and into a Genzler Magellan preamp. That is the major tone for EB for the room and is my DI. Looking forward to trying the UB through an HX Stomp loaded with the 3Sigma German Bass IR's soon. The Hx is on a board that also has a Future Impact V4 which sends midi note out to a Moog Minitaur synth. One of these days I'll rosin up the bow and see how that drives the synth. I doubt that combinatiion will ever see a gig but it may be fun at home. Mostly the Moog will be driven from Roland PK bass pedals... Anyway, another happy UB-804 customer here.
