Beesmanjohn Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 (edited) Afternoon, I wonder if anyone can help me. I can't find a bottom E flatwound that has a small enough ball end to slot into the tailpiece.I know I could get it widened to take one, but I don't want to mess with it, I just love basses that haven't been tampered with. So, does anyone have any suggestions as to string make (i'm looking to put a 100 gauge on) or is there anyone out there who is such an expert they would know what brand and gauge the originals were? Lfalex v1.1 Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Maybe one of the UK based string manufacturers could make a set of strings with smaller ball-ends? Newtone, for example. Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 The strings La Bella make specifically for danelectros might also work for a Dan Armstrong. I have a set of flats on my (30" scale) Longhorn & they have the small 'guitar-style' ball ends rather than the usual chunky bass ones. Quote
Bigguy2017 Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Can you just squeeze the ball end in a vice? Quote

I had this with a bass once, forget which, and I ran the string through a washer at the back of the bridge. Wasn't pretty but it worked. Quote
Hellzero Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 These were the original strings : http://www.danarmstrong.org/strings.html Quote
Hellzero Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 And these should work : https://www.thomann.de/gb/hoefner_flatwound_strings_for_bass.html Quote
