Which combo amp?

Looking to spend up to £600 on a decent combo amp, preferably around the 500w mark.

Looking at the Ashdown Rootmaster 210 but can't find out anywhere if it's 500w standalone or with an extension cab. Can anybody shed any light?

Any other amp suggestions, please comment!

Thanks

M

I'd agree with that, 500w at 4ohms, in other words, with a cab.

The Fender Rumble 500 is also 500w at 4ohms (with cab), 350w at 8ohms (internal speakers).

The Ampeg BA210 and Blackstar Unity are the same.

To get 500w out of the on board speakers, maybe look at a 750-800w amp or a matching cab.

I wouldn`t let the 350 watts of the Ashdown put you off - the RM range are incredibly powerful. I`ve only ever connected my RM500 head to an 8ohm cab and never been able to push volume past where I need it, and I`m in a punk band so we`re not playing quiet music.

£600 will get you a decent separate head and cab, enabling you to upgrade one or the other in future and/or making it easier/cheaper in the event of failure that you can be up and running again. Probably a lighter carry if they're separate, too. Worth a thought?

Ditto for the Rumble. It's darned loud without an extension cab, and plenty for on-stage sound. If you need to go louder you'd be looking at going through the PA

RM 210 500, I’m about 2 months in.

the guitarist has a stupidly loud Two Rock 100w valve head, and the drummer is a big lad with a propensity for violet drum tw*tting.

It’s a stonker, and doesn’t really want for anything without a cab underneath.

My OCD means I want a cab to go underneath, but that’s because more is more.

the recessed top handle is comfy one hand lifting, and the comp, sub and drive are all really useable...

When I’ve moved I’ll do some videos in the new garage/studio thing.

But try it, it’s more than made up for the rm800 rig I stupidly sold when “quitting”.

I'm really liking my Ashdown 300w 2x10 combo, plenty loud enough for a 4 piece rock band, with room to spare. My OCD wants another 2x10 cab, but my budget says no (the Ashdown RM210T is the most likely candidate).

Same as me.
