mrn1989
This is a false as my grandma's teeth, the headstock decal is all types of wrong. Don't even get even get me started on what's going on with the stringing back and over the bridge? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1962-Fender-Precision-Bass-Made-In-USA/173789132585?hash=item2876a3b729:g:u78AAOSwuAVcYaS5

mrn1989
The guy replied to me and said "It is not fake. I may have the year wrong though as I’m not an expert and will research more. I know it was purchased and played on many hit records in the 60s and 70s. Thank you for pointing it out."

Through-body stringing, behind the bridge, as they did with all 1962 Precisions. I'm surprised you don't know that

lemmywinks
Did P basses have the original contour body decal?
fleabag
Anyone think that looks like a Jazz neck rather than a P neck ... thats apart from the dodgy decal and stringing £6000. He should pretend to be a Nigerian Prince and start emailing people about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ locked up in a vault. He'd probably have more luck than selling that ex Grant P bass / Jazz bass

Yes they did: I was sad enough to go and look it up in my Fender Book but that's a much more modern transfer anyway.
fleabag
That bass is about as vintage as a plastic £5 note
Dan Dare
Anyone fancy asking him what "hit records" it was played on? That thumb rest doesn't look right, either. Edited March 19, 2019 by Dan Dare
Grangur
Headstock shape looks to me like an early Encore. The neck plate and tuners could be about right for that too. I had an Encore PJ as a "do up and sell" project once, but I could be wrong. Edited March 20, 2019 by Grangur

dlloyd
Zooming in on the headstock, the patent numbers are visible: 2960900: Filed in 1958, that's for the body contours 2972923: That's for the tremolo system you find on offset Fender guitars... on a P bass????????????? LOLOLOLOL!!! 3143028: Is for the adjustable bolt on neck I reckon the decals have been pieced together from a replacement Jazzmaster decal (minus 2573254) or from a generalised decal set that were never meant to fool an expert. NikNik
Yeh, I'd wager that's an authentic '62 RI Jazz neck. The gears are reverse gear, too.
