stewblack Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Three piece bands who had hits a pub covers band might please an audience with.. I'm having The Jam, what else have you got? Any style, age genre. Just a well recognised song in their back catalogue - or even two of course. Go hive mind go Quote
PaulWarning Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 if you expand it to 3 piece plus a non instrument playing singer, which is the same thing, there's a lot more Quote

Paddy515 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 How many do you want? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_power_trios Quote
Teebs Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 The Cribs; Manic Street Preachers; Muse; Bee-Gees; ELP; Aha (maybe not this one then!) 1 Quote
chris_b Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I play in a number trios and the number of members of the original bands has never crossed my mind when we come to choosing songs. When we strip the song down, it just has to be a good song, the audience has to like it, it has to suite out style and we have to be able to play it well. 4 Quote
KevB Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Rush - Spirit of Radio or Tom Sawyer, that'll keep you busy... 1 1 Quote
stewblack Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 Thanks folks. It's just a sketch of an outline of half an idea at the moment, but myself, drummer friend and guitarist might look to put a 3 piece together and for the fun of it playing only songs by trios. Not only for our fun though got to appeal to the general public. Quote
BreadBin Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Ben Folds Five - will require some creative thinking by your guitar player mind! 2 Quote
Lozz196 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 The Police, Green Day, plenty of decent hits in their back catalogues. 1 Quote

PatrickJ Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 A few ideas from similar stuff I've played with a Pub Covers esque band... Biffy Clyo - Who's Got a Match Green Day - Basket Case, Longview etc. Feeder - Just a Day , I'm pretty sure they are a trio but may tour with more members. Muse - Time Is Running Out Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World Sublime - What I Got Quote
