It is the complete Bob Marshall bass part for the tune 'Stand Up (And Give Me A Reason)' from the 1977 John Miles album, 'Stranger In The City'. I got this album in a sale bin when I was still exploring music as a new and exciting thing - I just wanted to hear everything. The album wasn't really heavy enough for me but there were two tracks that I did like because they have great guitar solos in. This was one of them (the solo at the end of the track). I learned to play it on guitar and can still scat the solo today, 45 years later (at least). It is a little dated but I still love it. Bilbo Posted March 14 Author Posted March 14 Right. Here we have a tune called 'Jokoh Jokoh' from the Richard Bona/Mandekan Cubano album 'Heritage' from 2016. I would never have attempted this but this Moises software has allowed me to bring the bass way up in the mix (I could actually isolate it but that is actually harder to deal with because you have no frame of reference in terms of bar lengths and note placement etc). This means I can pick up a lot of detail that would otherwise be unfathomable. As it is, you are left with a chart that is pretty much unreadable unless you are Vinnie Colauita but, if you want to get inside Bona's groove, spend some time with the first 17 bars and you will have everything you need to groove like a king. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/jokoh-jokoh-richard-bona/ Quote
Bilbo Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 (edited) This is Ron Carter's bass part for the tune 'Sister Cheryl' from the first Wynton Marsalis album (1982). I was never able to get the details on this due to the mix and RC's slides and slurs getting lost in the mix. The Moises software allowed me to bring the bass up in the mix so I could find those details. Two things came out of my doing this transcription. Practice loses its appeal when you have no gigs to prepare for (I do practice reading, though - guitar and bass dots). And I read a lot of books. As you say most of it is s*** anyways and maybe just read more. I have books i bought years ago that i've still not read yet. I used to only read on holiday and i thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm also into model railways so that takes up more of my time these days. Dave Quote
