The next one is a bit of a cheat. The bass part for 'In The Air Tonight' doesn't start until the drum break and is actually only four bars long, repeating into the fade. I love how a simple thing can be so effective and iconic.

Bet that didn't take too long @Bilbo :laugh1:

Today we have the Dave Myles bass part for Max Webster's 'Paradise Skies'. Great Rock bass, Great sound, simple but very effective.

Another brilliant band from my younger days. Fantastic bass player and great showman. First time i'd ever seen a bassist bend the neck for effect when he was playing.

Another classic album @Bilbo

Thanks for this one

Dave

As a Genesis fan, I have loved this bass part since hearing the album when it came out in 1981. The track 'Behind The Lines' originated on the 'Duke' album but, the year after Genesis released that version, Phil COllins reframed the tune as a funk masterpiece featuring Weather Report bassist Alphonso Johnson. This is a masterpiece in funk phrasing and needs to be be listened to for the nuance and inflection. I have even broken my own rule and included a part that features popping (two notes here and there). A brilliant part.

I had completely forgotten all about that song being on Face Value.

Saw Genesis on that tour and met them at both Edinburgh and Glasgow where Phil actually bought us lunch and had a lng chat with us in the hotel they were all staying in. He also told us that because he was sitting with us and paid for the lunch the staff thought we were with the band support team and didn't ask us to leave. :laugh1:

Always had a great respect for Phil Collins because of that day. A truly genuine nice guy.

Happy times Rob.

Thanks for bringing that one back from my favoured memories.

Dave Holland's bass solo on the tune 'Old Folks' from the 1990 Pat Metheny/Dave Holland/Roy Haynes album 'Question And Answer'. Watch the phrasing as there are passages where there are triplet quarternotes that are crossing the bars and my old copy of SIbelius doesn't like that very much at all!

Arguably the easiest read on here; Richard Nolan's bass part for the tune 'You'll Never Go To Heaven' by It Bites - easier even that Steve Dawson's 'Dallas 1 P.M.' line. I have put this up here because, at less than 60 bpm, with the exclusion of about three bars, the whole chart is pretty much readable after about one reading lesson. I always found it encouraging to be able to read something 'real' as opposed to the tedious etudes that you have to work through when you are studying.

Not sure if you take requests but as a big fan of D i c k Nolan and It Bites a transcription of I Got You Eating Out of My Hand from the same album or Once Around The World from the album of the same name would be fantastic.

Three new transcriptions to post today:

First one is a celebratory on. I said to myself that I was going to do 100 transcriptions this year (2 per week). Well this one was number 100. I wanted to do something 'special' for number 100 and the more I thought about it, the more I though that finding something special was taking me into very technical territory but, then it occured to me, 'What is it all about'? And this one came to mind :)

Sara Lee's bass lines to the B52s signature tune 'Love Shack'.
