dmccombe7 Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 Liking that one Rob. Sounds relatively "easy" for Jeff Berlin 😂 Dave Quote

itu Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 Good stuff, thanks @Bilbo! I know I cannot make it even close, but I have liked the song since its release. Quote
Bilbo Posted February 2, 2022 Author Posted February 2, 2022 A final chart from the 1986 album of the same name, this is Jeff Berlin's complete performance of the title tune 'Pump It'. Not nearly as chopsy as the rest of the album, there is a challenging opening section on harmonics that requires some attention. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/pump-it-jeff-berlin/ 1 Quote

Bilbo Posted February 2, 2022 Author Posted February 2, 2022 (edited) A GIRL playing bass? Who'd have thought it. This is Esperanza Spalding's bass part for the tune Bird Blue from the 2009 Mike Stern album, 'Big Neighborhood'. A very easy read, which is why I transcribed it not because it is ES at her best. She's a monster but I wanted something really easy to read today and this one appeared on a shuffled ipod. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/bird-blue-mike-stern/ Edited February 2, 2022 by Bilbo Quote

Bilbo Posted February 8, 2022 Author Posted February 8, 2022 A tricky little sucker, this is Alain Caron's bass part for 'Right After 4' from his 2013 'Multiple Faces' album. The main themes are accurate but the grooving solo sections are only approximations due to Alain's prolific and unpredictable use of ghost notes. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/right-after-4-alain-caron/ 2 Quote

Just wish i could play like him but i do try some of his fingerstyle lines. Not so much his slap technique cause i'm not very good at it. Cheers for this one Rob. Dave 1 Quote
Bilbo Posted February 11, 2022 Author Posted February 11, 2022 (edited) Another monster Anthony Jackson bass part, this is the complete transcription of the tune, 'The Suitcase' from the 1984 Steve Khan album, 'Casa Loco'. There is one section I am not happy with in the middle, a mad octave thing in C. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/the-suitcase-for-folon-steve-khan/ Edited February 11, 2022 by Bilbo 1 1 Quote

Bilbo Posted February 16, 2022 Author Posted February 16, 2022 Another tune from the 1986 Bob Mintzer Big Band album, 'Camoflage', this is the complete Zev Katz bass part for the ballad 'A Long Time Ago'. Nothing too difficult (a couple of double stops that are hard to read), just a nice tune to play. )https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/a-long-time-ago-bob-mintzer-big-band/ Quote
Bilbo Posted February 18, 2022 Author Posted February 18, 2022 (edited) Lovely double bass part today, this is the complete transcription of the Harvie Swartz bass part for the tune 'Small Day Tomorrow' from the 1987 Janis Siegel album, 'At Home'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/small-day-tomorrow-janie-siegel/ Edited February 18, 2022 by Bilbo Quote
Bilbo Posted February 21, 2022 Author Posted February 21, 2022 Another one from a wasted childhood, this is the complete bass part for the first side of the Rush 'Hemispheres' album; 'Cygnus X-I: Book Two - Hemispheres'. Thanks to 'Transcribe' software and a YouTube 'isolated bass' video, I have got the bulk of it. There are a couple of passages that I am not entirely satisfied with but this will certainly get you where you want to be in terms of playing the damn thing. A real eye-opener, the transcription really gives you a sense of how strong a player Lee was at that time and how the tunes are put together by Canada's finest. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/cygnus-xi-book-ii-hemispheres-rush/ 1 Quote

Bilbo Posted February 22, 2022 Author Posted February 22, 2022 Unsurprisingly, the complete set of transcription pdfs of the Geddy Lee bass parts for the 1978 Rush classic, 'Hemispheres'. Be careful out there! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/hemispheres-full-album-rush/ 1 Quote
Bilbo Posted February 24, 2022 Author Posted February 24, 2022 From the 1986 It Bites album, 'The Big Lad In The Windmill', this is a complete transcription of Richard Nolan's bass part for the tune 'I've Got You Eating Out Of My Hand'. dmccombe7 Posted February 24, 2022 Posted February 24, 2022 Its worth sharing twice anyways. Brilliant band, saw them support Robert Plant and met Francis Dunnery in the lounge area after their set when he came over to our table and sat with us for quite a while chatting. Terrific guy and phenomenal player. Dave Quote
