Bilbo Posted Thursday at 20:30 Author Posted Thursday at 20:30 Another Andy West bass part (on an Andy West tune) from the 1979 Dixie Dregs album, 'What If'. Not hard to read per se but hard to read at the tempo they are playing it at! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/travel-tunes-the-dixie-dregs/ Quote
Bilbo Posted Thursday at 20:47 Author Posted Thursday at 20:47 And Lincoln Goines's bass part from the tune 'Tipatina's' from the 1999 Mike Stern album, 'Play' https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/tipatinas-mike-stern/ Quote
Bilbo Posted Saturday at 10:12 Author Posted Saturday at 10:12 I had to get to it eventually. I always loved this tune but never got around to learning it. The John Paul Jones part from 'Black Dog' from the untitled Led Zeppelin album commonly referred to as Led Zeppelin IV. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/black-dog-led-zeppelin/ 2 1 Quote
Bilbo Posted Saturday at 10:42 Author Posted Saturday at 10:42 A partial transcription (first 4 minutes or so) of the Robin Phillip's bass part to 'Light Up' from the Solstice album of the same name. Proper Prog. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/light-up-solstice-first-two-thirds/ 1 Quote

Bilbo Posted Saturday at 13:33 Author Posted Saturday at 13:33 The last two albums, Light Up and Sia are both very, very strong, compositionally, performance and recording quality. I think they are a great band. 1 Quote
Bilbo Posted Saturday at 21:05 Author Posted Saturday at 21:05 About time for some more Dave Holland. A very readable part from the 2010 Holland Octet album, 'Pathways', this is the tune 'Blue Jean'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/blue-jean-dave-holland-octet/ 1 Quote
Bilbo Posted Sunday at 15:13 Author Posted Sunday at 15:13 (edited) Some Pop/Prog from a new band that are going to go places, this is the Mike Rutherford bass part for the Three Sides Live version of nobody's favourite Genesis track, 'Misunderstanding'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/misunderstanding-genesis/ Edited Sunday at 15:13 by Bilbo 1 Quote
Bilbo Posted 10 hours ago Author Posted 10 hours ago (edited) I love this - a B-side that appeared as a bonus track on the re-releases of the 1982 Jon Anderson album 'Animation'. Some great playing here across the board but the recording is unclear on who plays bass on which tracks. I think the 'main' bass player on the recording was Brazilian Stefano Cerri but it also credits John Giblin (who played on the previous album, 'Song Of Seven') and Jack Bruce. I think this sounds like Bruce (and doesn't sound like the other two) but am open to challenge. This is the track 'Spider' (also referred to as 'The Spider' but I think that is wrong. But it doesn't matter as it is still a monster track). https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/spider-jon-anderson/ PS even if you don't want the chart, listen to the track - through headphones. You'll thank me for it! Edited 10 hours ago by Bilbo Quote

You'll thank me for it! That's a hard one as most of it sounds more John Giblin but some specific parts sound very Jack Bruce. In 82 Bruce had more of an attack in his playing altho he was a very adaptable player whereas Giblin had a more mellow sound. Based on that i'd go with Giblin but i guess we'll never know for certain. Great wee song, thoroughly enjoyed it. Good choice. Dave Quote
