Paddy515
I already own this Bill F. designed Jack12 cab built by Mr Discreet, a 112 with an Eminence Kappalite driver and would like another cab to run with it. Might a Fender Rumble 112 driven by an Eminence Neodymium speaker and having the same dimensions be a good match? As this Smith cab is a one-off, I cant get an exact match to pair up with it. Thanks all.
Bill Fitzmaurice
Mixing cabs is seldom a good idea. Mixing direct radiators with horn loaded cabs is a particularly bad idea.

Bill Fitzmaurice
The tweeter isn't the problem, the woofer is horn loaded.
SPHDS
Regarding mixing cabs, I can understand why mixing impedance is not the best of ideas, but are there any other reasons? Also, why is mixing directs with horn loaded a no go? (sorry if these qu's are dumb......just curious...)
Bill Fitzmaurice
I'm reluctant to make a reply, as this is one of those questions that always ends up at ten pages of bickering back and forth, like the difference between tube watts and SS watts. For an example go to Talkbass.com. The subject comes up at least once a week and it never ends well. 1
SPHDS
Fair enough..... I take it is one of those 'it will/won't work/sound pleasant' type lotteries...... Or would fireworks/catastrophic cone failure ensue? (like my former bandmate's Cornford turning into a 5 bar fire mid-gig........)
Bill Fitzmaurice
Nothing catastrophic. But if your desire is the best sound possible (isn't it always?) mixing cabs is not the way to get it.
