Woodinblack Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 Looking for a jazz neck for my P bass, found this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202542172424 I think he has assembled it wrong. Shouldn't the strings go in the front? 3 Quote
project_c Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 That’s just how you set up a bass with nice low action, gotta get those strings behind the fretboard to get that authentic snappy tone. 2 Quote

Shouldn't the strings go in the front? I have one of those Hong Kong maple/black blocks J necks on order. FleeBay item number: 332630410792 I'll let you know how terrible it is if you like? (whenever it arrives). 👍 (I had to order a 20 fret version, because 21 frets would be super-confusing!). Edited April 22, 2019 by Ricky 4000 Quote

Dan Dare Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 Sophisticated stuff from our friends in Hong Kong. They look like the sympathetic strings you find on Hardanger fiddles, which run in a cavity beneath the fingerboard and vibrate freely to give a sort of doubled effect. Didn't realise the idea had spread to electric basses 😊 Quote
BreadBin Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 May be worth asking @Pea Turgh where he got his neck from recently. I know he was very impressed with it. Quote
Pea Turgh Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 Hiya! This was off eBay, but the strings went over the fretboard: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F232975836740 Quote
Woodinblack Posted April 22, 2019 Author Posted April 22, 2019 Cool, if a bit traditional with the strings. Am looking for maple with black blocks and binding. How was the ebay neck? Quote

I'll have to wait and see what turns up! 😬👍 Quote
Ricky 4000 Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 (edited) Arrived today! Colour and dimensions look OK compared to my "Vintage Brand" J neck... Unfortunately, there's a crack through the fretboard (of the new neck, not the old one)... 😕 Edited April 26, 2019 by Ricky 4000 2 Quote

Nothing gets thrown out in China, just passed down the line until someone can make a profit out of it. This explains why you can often apparently get top gear at huge savings, in many cases the fails are cosmetic but I'd worry about that crack. Quote

This neck wasn't an odd single one for sale (item still available, showing 10 in stock / 23 sold). I'll see what happens with my returns request. If the guy offers me 50% off (it was only £30 to begin with), I might run some thin superglue in the crack, and it might hold up? 🤒 Quote
