But I don't know of anyone who has tried it. S.P.
~tl
Does the XLR input on the LMII support phantom power? If it does, then I'd guess it'd be theoretically possible – though it would need a bit of fiddling about on the bass end.
slobluesine
it's for double bass mics apparently so should have power, i'm thinking i can put a stereo jack connector on the stagg instead of the mono one ??? tauzero
I had a look at the LM manual and it doesn't mention phantom power at all. Is there any particular reason for wanting to get rid of the 9V battery?
slobluesine
think you could be right tauzero, just put a meter on it and nothin??? whats the point of an xlr with no power??? why not another 1/4 jack input?
RayFW
think you could be right tauzero, just put a meter on it and nothin??? whats the point of an xlr with no power??? why not another 1/4 jack input?
Because it's balanced. They could have put a TRS 1/4" jack input as a balanced input but it makes sense to have two different connector types when one is balanced and one isn't. BigRedX
The IEC standard for phantom powering is 48v and 10mA as the maximum current which you'll need to convert to 9v for the Stagg pre-amp. Also because of the way that the phantom power is supplied on a balanced connection it's not a good idea to connect unbalanced equipment to it plus because the XLR input is designed for microphones it'll probably be the wrong impedance and/or sensitivity for the line-level output of the Stagg. Proceed with caution.
bass_ferret
Some basses have an XLR balanced output as well as jack. The only amp I know that does phanom power is EBS through a stereo jack lead. You would have to save a lot of batteries to pay for one. slobluesine
think i'm gonna stick with the batts. anyone know how long an average PP3 lasts? i heard 50 hours with a radio mic, so a guitar or bass would be around the same then??
