ROUTE 49 STUDIO
Hi I've got a Music Man 210 RH Cab that I got off our old bass player many moons ago. It sounds great, I've used it for bass and guitar but having just had a baby I'm trying to get rid of some stuff to make space! I always presumed it was designed for bass because of it's ported design but as I've started looking into selling it I've seen some people listing it as a guitar cab, or was it designed to be both. Some of the things I've read seem to suggest that things being specifically for guitar or bass is a more recent thing? I've included a picture from google, mine is in better nick. Any thoughts welcome, many thanks. Ben
Bill Fitzmaurice
Bass. That's the reason for the port, which MM incorrectly called a reflex horn, that what RH stands for. It would be of zero benefit for guitar. That doesn't mean guitar players might not have used them, but if so they were lugging around a lot larger cab than they needed to.
casapete
Musicman cabs like this were also available in 2x12 and 1x15 versions, and were marketed as suitable for bass and guitar. They were made with standard (Eminence ?) drivers with EV’s as an option. This was to match their amplifier heads, the HD series, which were again designated for use by both instruments. A hybrid design with solid state pre / valve power amp, they were initially made in 65 and 130 watt versions, later uprated to 75 and 150 watt models. Bassists tended to go for the non reverb models. Eric Clapton obviously agreed with Bill’s comments above - when he was an MM amp user / endorsee he used the heads with non ported standard design MM 4x12 cabs!
