Russ
Well, here it is... my new Sei! It got delivered today - I haven't had a chance to plug it in yet (I'm at work), but first impressions are amazing. It's even prettier in person. Now, for my next trick, I have to find a band to play it with...
Russ
So, I got home, plugged it in and... er.... wow. This thing is amazing. Just f***ing awesome. Does it all - mwahh out the wazoo, lots of grunt and bite, it even slaps fantastically. My little son has already taken rather a liking to it too. I do like the way the Sei guys do the headstock with the different woods.

Still not 100% sold on the Offset Flamboyant shape, but that wood makes up for a lot.

Hey Zig, if my old 5-er ever needs a new home just let me know; although I had very good reasons for selling (to buy something I'd been after for 17 years and which probably would have taken another 17 years if I'd missed out) I miss that bass a great deal. Best 5 I've ever played. Although I'm sure you want to keep it for the same reason!

ziggydolphinboy
yup the chronos is nice thinking about buying another W&T so see how it goes, the seis have a grwol to them but also the W&t has alot of tonal variations whereas the seis ( except my four with the u retro ) are a tad limited!! Russ
I've decided I want to track down my old 4-string Sei - it was my first fully custom Sei, I got it in 1999 and, to be honest, never really gave it a chance. Lovely instrument (as expected) but I didn't "bond" with it at the time, and so it went back to The Gallery six months later. The spec: 4-string Flamboyant headed Wenge body Ziricote facings Ebony fingerboard with striped binding and red LEDs Black hardware Lane Poor pickups (MM (bridge) and wide-aperture humbucker (neck)) Last I heard, the subsequent owner had requested that gold hardware should be fitted to replace the black. Pic attached - if anyone knows of its whereabouts, please let me know. 4000
Crikey Zig, I never found any of my Seis lacking when it came to tonal range, but then I get a whole load of tones out of 2 40 year old passive basses. Be interested to hear that Chronos. One thing I have noticed, I just got a Sei in trade for my Rim and have found the KAs it has to be better than the Barts I've had in my others, much more versatile. Russ, I remember your bass well; played it several times in the Gallery. Haven't seen it in ages though. fiatcoupe432
i ve tried couple of sei at bass gallery, i wasen't impress at all , the action was horrible and felt horrible , they where second hand , so i don't know if they need it to have some job done. hopefully one day i ll try another one and change my mind about them.they do look amazing though
BigRedX
A Sei bass is like a bespoke tailored suit. It's made for the original owner and there's no guarantee that it will suit someone else. When I was having the final tweaks and set up done on my Flamboyant, I had a go another Sei which was essentially the same basic spec as mine - 5-string fretless. It was all right but IMO not a patch in terms of looks playability and sound on what Martin had made for me. Hardly surprising really and I guess that the original owner of that bass would have thought the same about mine.
