Russ Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Well, here it is... my new Sei! It got delivered today - I haven't had a chance to plug it in yet (I'm at work), but first impressions are amazing. It's even prettier in person. Now, for my next trick, I have to find a band to play it with... Quote
Russ Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 So, I got home, plugged it in and... er.... wow. This thing is amazing. Just f***ing awesome. Does it all - mwahh out the wazoo, lots of grunt and bite, it even slaps fantastically. My little son has already taken rather a liking to it too. Quote
lozbass Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Russ - that is absolutely gorgeous! Martin is a fantastic luthier and an artist. One of my favourite Seis - beautiful Quote
JTUK Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 He can certainly put wood together with a great eye Everything fits, everything works. Great luthier, IMO. Quote

Still not 100% sold on the Offset Flamboyant shape, but that wood makes up for a lot. Quote

krysh Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 oh my, you guys have so gorgeous sei basses. so let me please add the humble jazz 5 that I bought here from lowregisterhead 2 months ago. I love it every day a bit more. Quote
4000 Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012
my 3 lovely sei basses,
Gorgeous. Hey Zig, if my old 5-er ever needs a new home just let me know; although I had very good reasons for selling (to buy something I'd been after for 17 years and which probably would have taken another 17 years if I'd missed out) I miss that bass a great deal. Best 5 I've ever played. Although I'm sure you want to keep it for the same reason! Quote
ziggydolphinboy Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 hey fella played the 5 last night i must admit it gives my chronos 5 a run for its money, its the same as my other two seis awesome thank you for youre ehelp in me getting the bass you and John ate both on the list if i ever need to sell it . kindest regards ziggy. ziggydolphinboy Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 yup the chronos is nice thinking about buying another W&T so see how it goes, the seis have a grwol to them but also the W&t has alot of tonal variations whereas the seis ( except my four with the u retro ) are a tad limited!! Quote
Russ Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 (edited) I've decided I want to track down my old 4-string Sei - it was my first fully custom Sei, I got it in 1999 and, to be honest, never really gave it a chance. Lovely instrument (as expected) but I didn't "bond" with it at the time, and so it went back to The Gallery six months later. The spec: 4-string Flamboyant headed Wenge body Ziricote facings Ebony fingerboard with striped binding and red LEDs Black hardware Lane Poor pickups (MM (bridge) and wide-aperture humbucker (neck)) Last I heard, the subsequent owner had requested that gold hardware should be fitted to replace the black. Pic attached - if anyone knows of its whereabouts, please let me know. Edited January 23, 2012 by Russ Quote
4000 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 (edited) Crikey Zig, I never found any of my Seis lacking when it came to tonal range, but then I get a whole load of tones out of 2 40 year old passive basses. Be interested to hear that Chronos. One thing I have noticed, I just got a Sei in trade for my Rim and have found the KAs it has to be better than the Barts I've had in my others, much more versatile. Russ, I remember your bass well; played it several times in the Gallery. Haven't seen it in ages though. Edited January 25, 2012 by 4000 Quote

fiatcoupe432 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 i ve tried couple of sei at bass gallery, i wasen't impress at all , the action was horrible and felt horrible , they where second hand , so i don't know if they need it to have some job done. hopefully one day i ll try another one and change my mind about them.they do look amazing though Quote
BigRedX Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 A Sei bass is like a bespoke tailored suit. It's made for the original owner and there's no guarantee that it will suit someone else. When I was having the final tweaks and set up done on my Flamboyant, I had a go another Sei which was essentially the same basic spec as mine - 5-string fretless. It was all right but IMO not a patch in terms of looks playability and sound on what Martin had made for me. Hardly surprising really and I guess that the original owner of that bass would have thought the same about mine. Quote

krysh Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I am lucky. I bought my sei 4th hand and it feels as if it was made for me. Quote
