gave it a bit more depth of colour.

Gun oil with wet sanding and then buffing and take a little sheen off....4B84290F-14D0-4EF5-B5DC-3DC1B4486B18.thumb.jpeg.e6435dbc6eb262ab6e832cf41bad5df2.jpegFEA9C03C-29C6-48CB-A5C3-C038436AB3E8.thumb.jpeg.a60fe2d1db9ea07af1cfe84001fdc513.jpeg

Electronics will probably not be original Jag wiring.

Should be Haüssel big pole jazz pick ups With Tonestyler Duo 6 plate.

I’ll pop the switches in the horns, but not connect them, so they are there for future use and merely for show.

Will make a powerful and ultimately less fiddly controllable Jag!

to remove the sticky Tru oil/ gun oil finish obviously use 0000 wool, but after that I was buffing it with a non lint cloth and the micro fibre that came with my sunglasses.

Top amateur tip - I found wrapping a tennis ball inside the cloth gave a great taut surface and also an easy grip to buff away!

That looks great, I like the gold rub n buff finish, how do you seal over it 🙂

So with rub n buff you use it on wood which has grain like this, swamp ash, maple etc.

you need to do a very good and even sanding job on the body. I would go to at least 400.

Stain the wood, after that has dried use the rub n buff and press into the whole body and this should penetrate the wood grain.

Let that dry for about 10 mins, then use teak oil to take the excess off.

Now I think I over sanded the body to 1500, and sealed most the grain off, also maybe I took a colour gold too close to amber so the grain didn’t pop as much as I thought, by you still get a shimmer I think....

this wasn’t me, but this was a black stain with a silver rub n buff

more grain pop, this was only sanded to 400.

once I got the colour I wanted I use Gun oil diluted with white spirits and sanded it in for 2 coats.

Then undiluted oil, wet sanding inbetween before final buff.

Thats about it!

It's a great bass to start with I have recently discovered.  I am watching this with keen interest.

Your ideas are interesting and you should end up with a good little player.

Cheers

Doing it for my brother - think he will get a corker - esp the Haüssel tonestyler combo

It doesn't sound bad passive either but that the beauty of it as a starter for modification;  either way you get a result.

You could easily pop some T bird type pick ups in as well

I was thinking of putting in  set of P&J Nordies in.  I might one day but it sounds grand with the Duncan Designed P&J as it is.

So the neck was on eBay from a separate seller from the company is called Freestone used to be called hilimire and are in the UNited states.

The Frets need a little dressing and filing sharp edges - by they tell you that in advance.

pretty decent quality and they use interesting woods

wizard thumper

Come again?

PS:  As you were.  I've just had a look at the search results for wizard thumper.  Once you get past the entries dealing with wizard abuse self-help groups all becomes clear.
