Hi all, trying to keep this brief....

took delivery of a bitsa acquired on here today, bought with the sole intention of keeping the neck for my USA precision and selling the rest on.

Quick tune up and a tinker, all seems fine with one exception, the A string keeps jumping out of the nut!

having a little look, to my eyes (as a novice in this sort of issue) the nut SEEMS to be cut ok, the string line SEEMS to be ok so I cant understand why its jumping out!

could the string spacing be wrong? Could i need to add another string tree to hold it in place, could the issue be with the bridge?

ive no idea with this sort of thing so am asking for any help/advice/fixes for the issue, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Pics to follow

many thanks in advance

Rewind the A string but force it downwards so that it wraps around the lower part of the tuner pole.  That will increase the break angle at the nut and stop it popping out.

imho you need a lot more turns on the tuner post to keep the string pushed down - like @Paul S has said, so I suggest a new A string or even a set and don't cut them so short - all should be well.

Cheers guys, the pictures i put up are of the bass and how it came to me, i personally normally ensure I've got 3 wraps on my posts so when i swap the neck over my old strings should have more than enough to cover it!
