SubPlucker
Hello all, just wondering if anyone has any opinions/experience with the Harley Benton DB01? https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_db01_sb_electric_double_bass.htm Available since March 2019, this is possibly replacing the Palatino they had before. From what I can see it looks very similar to the current Stagg 3/4 EDB, with the controls, back-plates, bolts, battery compartment and jack all being in the same positions. Some differences are that the body is Paulownia not maple, the fingerboard is birch not the Stagg laminate thing, and it comes with a carbon bow. Interestingly there is an option for a more traditional spiral headstock. There are no reviews yet so any info would be appreciated.
mangotango
Looks also quite like the Dean Pace Contrabass. https://www.deanguitars.com/query?upc=819998180201 Which is a shame, because the Palatino does at least look a bit different from these usual "stick" basses that all resemble the Aria SWB Lite. At least the Palatino has a vague attempt at a bass body.
zvirus
Quote Fingerboard made of birch (Betula albosinensis) I got Stagg EDB Deluxe (rosewood fingerboard) and after LOT of work plays and sounds great... Shame Thomann does not make EDB with rosewood or ebony fingerboard... I do not think you can "fix" birch ebonized fingerboard - you can rosewood one or ebony.... just my 2 pennies plus birch is rather soft wood I guess https://tinytimbers.com/janka.htm https://www.fantastic-floor.com/red-birch-hardwood-flooring.html Ebony - 3220 Janka scale Rosewood - 1780 Janka scale Betula albosinensis - Red Birch - 1260 Janka scale Why actually they bother to make an instrument with rather SOFT fingerboard???? I`d pay that £100 more for rosewood or ebony... Well... looks like I`m a dreamer.... Edited June 1, 2019 by zvirus
