Hi I need a bit of help with all these ohms which I have no understanding of these. I have an EB 180 and I have upgraded the speaker to a Soundlab 1041f. its a 15 inch 400 W speaker rated at 8 ohm. My question is can I add the original blue line 150 W speaker which I have put in a cab, its rated at 4 ohm? I dont want to add too much and cause damage to my amp. Help please

Nope. It would need to be 1 x 4 ohms speaker or 2 x 8 ohms speakers.

Don`t use a 4 and 8 ohms with the EB or it will do the old puff of smoke!

To be honest, I don`t know if changing the speaker will be much of an "upgrade"

If the original speaker is a 150 watt jobbie, putting in a 400 watt speaker won`t do much good if the head is only pushing out 150 odd watts and it will more than likely be less than that. Also the original speaker is designed to be used in the cab and the Soundlab might not be. But hey, if you like sound it`s all good.

Thanks. Maybe I will just use the two 8 Ohm 150w speakers as I don't want to damage the amp. Can that be done. I never have it over half volume.

Gary please don`t. There is an old Ashdown joke regarding fire extinguishers that did the rounds a while ago, you don`t want to resurrect it!

The EB will not take 2 x 4 ohms speaker plugged in at once. That would mean a 2 odd ohms load which will render it gubbed, I think that is the technical term.

You can use 1 x 4 ohms speaker on its own or 2 x 8 ohms speakers. Really 2 x 4 ohms cabs aren`t really any good unless your amp can run at 2 ohms and it tends to be the more high power, expensive amps that can do this.

I`m 99% sure that the EB can`t do a 2 ohms load but I could be wrong...
