You know, the sort of things that make you smile or laugh. I love The IDLES and well done is one of my favourite songs. You have to love this-

Why don’t you have a job?

Even Tarquin has a job,

Mary Berry has a job

why don't you have a job?

followed shortly by-

Why don’t you like Reggae?

Even Tarquin likes Reggae

Mary Berry likes Reggae

Why don’t you like Reggae?

Also love these NiN classic lines-

And the Devil wants to F**K me in the back of his car,

nothing quite like the feel of something new.

Where the plane shot that big monkey

And they killed him"

"Maybe it's the way you wear your blue jeans so tight,

I can put my finger on what you're doing right!"

Status Quo, Something 'bout you baby I like. Every teenage boy, and the man he grew into, knows exactly what that's about 😁

"She's well-acquainted with the touch of the velvet hand like a lizard on a window pane
The man in the crowd with the multicoloured mirrors on his hobnail boots
Lying with his eyes while his hands are busy working overtime
A soap impression of his wife which he ate and donated to the National Trust"

Certainly random.

Masters of Reality - Kill The King

"And in many degrees of heat
The fire looked at the meat
And if I cook you the least you can do
Is lay there and be sweet"

If the real Jesus Christ were to stand up today

He'd be gunned down cold by the CIA

God doesn't want us all to follow

God doesn't plant the bombs for Hezbollah

God doesn't even go to church!

Islam is rising

The Christians mobilising.

I like the subtleness in Pea by the Red Hot Chili Peppers:

"F**k you a**hole, you homophobic redneck d*ck"

The phrasing is superb.

The Arctic Monkeys come up with some good stuff

And I've seen him with girls of the night
He told Roxanne to put on her red light

(When the sun goes down)

Likes her gentlemen not to be gentle
Was it a Mecca dauber or a betting pencil?

(Forescent Adolescent)

But Billy Bragg is the master

In the end it took me a dictionary
To find out the meaning of unrequited
While she was giving herself for free
At a party to which I was never invited

He used to wear fedoras, but now he sports a fez

There's cabalistic innuendos in everything he says,

Sucking on a cigarette, picking up the threads,

Underneath the Casablanca Moon

From "Casablanca Moon" by Slapp Happy - lyrics by Peter Blegvad.

Blegvad is a great wordsmith - here's another example:

Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction - Tattooed Beat Messiah album is genius, sleazy poetry and been stuck in my head since the 80's. Jan Cyrka's guitar is god like on it too.

This delightful couplet always makes me smile

"Gimme backseat education

Working up a sweat on the leatherette

Backseat education

little girl you're the teachers pet.'

Late period Therapy? - Hey Satan You Rock:

Wanna spend my whole life drunk, never wanna give a f**k
Wanna walk through gates of heaven, backstage pass in hand
St. Peter, park my car, there's angels on my mind
Fix me up some manna, where d'ya keep the wine?

Venom on the jukebox
Postcards to hell, hey Satan - you rock
Get me Mary, she's a fox
Postcards to hell, hey Satan - you rock

Out of student loans and treehouse homes

we all would take the latter

21 pilots

Stressed Out

Everytime I listen to that song it makes me happy. Looking back to simpler times.

Is it ladder or latter???????

Perfect both ways,

Clever stuff.

The bugger in the short sleeves f*cked my wife
Did it quick and split
Back home, fresh as a daisy to Maisy, oh Maisy

And the twelve-bore it stood in the corner
Quite operatic in its self-disgust
It blew him all over the living room floor
Like parrot sh*t, parrot spit, parrot sh*t was shot

John Cale - Guts

(Written shortly after Mr Cale discovered that Mr Kevin Ayers had trespassed upon Mr Cale's marital relationship)

Don't know this song , but I found myself imagining this sung to the verse line of Squeeze's  'Cool for cats'

And now I can't imagine it any other way...

" well you walk into the room like a camel then you frown

you put your eyes in your pocket and your nose on the ground

there ought to be a law against you comin around

One I worked on Michael - loved the humour. Another track had the line "I don't know what I want but I want it now" which my daughter, who was about 5 at the time appropriately wore the t-shirt on which it was emblazoned!

Lots of great stuff from Mr Z, but I love the way he delivers this:

Idiot wind
Blowing through the buttons of our coats
Blowing through the letters that we wrote
Idiot wind
Blowing through the dust upon our shelves
We're idiots, babe
It's a wonder we can even feed ourselves

Apparently the lyrics to Procal Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale have a meaning........

We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kind a seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
The waiter brought a tray

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale.
