So next question then - what amplification do people take? The travel bass I have is an Aria Sinsonido, so headphones plug straight in. Do others play unplugged, or with a little headphone amp, or a tiny cab?

I use a Dunlop headphone amp, it's the size of a pedal. It’s a bit crap if I am honest but works ok for what it is.

I often take a bass with me on UK holidays. I usually wake up early and my wife doesn't, good way to spend a couple of hour before breakfast. I just pay it unplugged and use my laptop for the songs I need to practice. Quite enough for my wife to stay asleep a few feet away.

Sounds perfect.

I am using a Korg Pandora mini. It is tiny, has built-in multi-effects (if needed), tuner, drum patterns and jack out.  Even has an aux in.

Bass in an SKB bass safe. Chuck it in the hold. Take your laptop/phone/iPad and an iRig style headphone to 1/4 jack converter or a small audio interface in your hand luggage and you’re sorted for listening to what ever you need and hearing your bass back.

I take my bass wherever I can if I’m away, even staying at friends. 10 mins maintenance a day keeps me fighting fit and ready. If I don’t play 1 day I feel it the next. If I don’t play for a week I have a lot of catching up to do!

My last holidays without bass were 21 years ago. That was a 2 month trecking tour in Patagonia.

Other than that I always find space in the trunk of the car to fit a bass inside. It would not be holidays if I had no bass around.

Cheers, it meant I got in an hour's playing this morning that I wouldn't have had if I hadn't have had if I hadn't brought a bass on holiday with me. Same again tomorrow!

Have safely arrived at 'Bambi Villa', Northumberland, for a weeks' bass practice (and holiday things with Mrs Teebs :)).

The jazz bass seems to have interested the local wildlife :laugh1:

I would rather go away without one and bring a new one back 😂

Now that sounds good 👍

Have just decided that my little Blackstar Fly amp is insufficient for my holiday practice needs, so I must buy an Ashdown CTM100 plus CL310 cab, or equivalent! :D

Mrs Teebs will be very pleased! :D

If I don't appear on BC again, Mrs Teebs did not take my suggestion well & has eviscerated me... :(

Please give her her full title. It's the long-suffering Mrs Teebs.

And not a jury in the world would convict her given the extenuating circumstances (these being that she's the long-suffering Mrs Teebs....).

Have a lovely time in Northumberland. And try not to bother the wildlife.

PS Nice looking spot, btw. Will expect a tripadvisor-stylee thread to report on it when you get back

"Beatified" isn't a posh version of "beaten", you know.

He's taken a bass and amp with him.

The wildlife is not only bothered, it's absolutely traumatised.

The locals are reporting deer walking around with rabbits stuffed in their ears.
