stewblack Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 Are you keen on effects and pedalboards? “I don’t do tap-dancing.” 1 Quote
nilebodgers Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 Good interview. I heard an interview with Wilko Johnson a while back. When he was asked if he used pedals he answered: "What do you think I am, a cyclist???" 2 Quote

A good musician plays for the music. Sometimes all you need is your instrument. Sometimes you need a load of sound shaping devices. Knowing when and where to use them is one of the things that sets a good musician above an average one. 2 Quote
Lozz196 Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 Probably easy to stick to one sound on bass in a band with as many musicians/singers as The Specials have. 1 Quote

Maybe he’s just trying to be humorous. Quote

ahpook Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 (edited) He doesn't tap dance, but is actually telepathic. Shame, I heard he was in line for the lead in 'Scanners: The Musical" Edited June 13, 2019 by ahpook 2 Quote

It's a funny line, so I shared it. Quote

Ricky 4000 Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 Sir Horace - he is so the guv'nor... thanks for sharing the link, Stew. 👍 My drummer was talking about Horace just the other day. Apparently he called the bassline to Little B*tch "the wrist breaker". 1 Quote

bazzbass Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 of course he doesn't tap dance. Doesn't have to. I expect he has full FOH support and the band has their own soundperson who dials in compression, delay and any EQ his bass sound requires. It's funny, I must've spent $3,000 on various pedals, pre amps , dirt, compressors. I just go direct to my amp now. Wanna buy some pedals? 1 Quote

For preference I go straight into a valve amp and use my fingers to vary my sound and dynamics. However I also can't resist effects pedals. I blow hot and cold though. At the moment I'm building up my pedal collection again and using up hours of valuable rehearsal time messing with them. I'm now up to 3 pedal boards but I bet in 6 months time I'll be fed up of all the extra faffing around and be back to a bass, a cable and an amp. Quote
