Another stupid question - re strings?

I should know this but in 40odd years of bass playing I've only ever changed the strings on 34" basses.

 

 

When it comes to strings..........are 'medium scale' strings long enough for a 2x2 32" scale or will I need 'long scale' ?

 

Specifically I'm looking at phosphor bronze acoustic bass strings (45-90 preferably)

Medium scale. My bass is 33”, I bought regular long scale strings and had to send them back. Luckily they came from bass direct who're brilliant.

Which bass?  E.g. if it has a floating bridge and a tailpiece, you might need longer strings to accommodate the extra distance behind the bridge.

New strings always seem to be generous in their length  ( ooer matron ) no matter which scale they use.

A set of mediums scales for a meduim scale bass will be pretty generous

Medium scale will be fine. Also there is someone (ahem...) selling some Fender acoustic strings that would be perfect for your bass in the ‘Other musical items...’ section on here. Okay, a touch heavier gauge than you specify, but worth a look 😄

The main thing to look out for is that the thicker winding should not wrap around the tuning peg. I'd measure the length of the winding on your existing strings from ball end to just beyond the nut and look for strings that have the same wound length.
