Barking Spiders Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) This was from a 2018 edition of Music Radar so it might've been mentioned here but I've not seen it if it was so.... NB it's clearly light-hearted in tone so not to be taken seriously https://www.musicradar.com/news/13-types-of-bass-player-a-spotters-guide clearly I'm #12 😀 Edited June 27, 2019 by Barking Spiders Quote
Daz39 Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 OFC (harrumph) this list is useless because it doesn't break Metal down into it's 19 true sub-genres, 14 associated moods and 5 extra dark undiscovered corners. /tongue 6 Quote
ezbass Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 I couldn't spot myself (or am I being subconsciously blind?). Quote
thodrik Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Such an article must surely have occurred after the following exchange at the office: Editor: 'Folks, we are on a tight deadline and we need some bass content urgently. Rob, can you just draw up some kind of list thingy based off your own preconceptions which requires no research whatsoever?' Rob: 'Sure thing boss, I will get right on it after I finish this Pot Noodle.' 1 3 Quote
Ricky 4000 Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 I couldn't spot myself either (though there were elements of truth in there). Otherwise, it's a blunt little tool, Clarice... Quote
paul_c2 Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Yeah its just a crappy, lazy piece of clickbait. Quote
HazBeen Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Feck me, yes utterly pointless, cheap journalism ..... bit like reality tv. Quote
Linus27 Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Yep, couldn't spot myself but I had traits of No.1, No.10 and No.12. Quote
Stofferson Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Wow surprisingly accurate on two for me haha The Blues Baron, I do have a custom built black not quite gold bass and i am partial to taking it for a walk. Mr Metal, My Corvette is my baby but i do use my thumb more nowadays and plenty of fuzz, only on breakdowns though! Quote
PaulWarning Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) I'm definitely number 11, apart from the Mohican, punks didn't have them in 77 Edited June 27, 2019 by PaulWarning Quote
Woodinblack Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 I couldn't spot myself either, other than shades of other things, but it was funny, well written and not offensive so I liked it. And I do know a lot of people from those categories. 1 Quote
Teebs Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 1, 5 & 11 for me, but none really fit. There should be a category for me - 'The Teebs™' Quote
Unknown_User Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 I enjoyed that. With the following edits this sums me up pretty well. 1. The Rocker Bass: Battered Fender Squier Precision Technique: Rock solid Limited No pedals, no picks, no prancing about: the Rocker’s creed is simple but devastatingly effective. They have come to rock, and rock they will. Usually found having the time of their life with their covers band at the local pub, they plays it unapologetically loud and care not for your eardrums. There is no purer sight in all of bassdom. Quote

Oopsdabassist Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 No 1 all day long for me, although I do have a pedal it only has 2 sounds, my tone......and tuner! Quote
Guest Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 I thought it was quite amusing and not at all lazy. Stereotypes they may be but quite well-written. Obviously the hep jazz cat wasn’t very good - as we know, jazz is more aimless noodling* rather than odd time signatures - that would be number 14 - the ex-music school fusion nutjob who listens to the Elektrik Band, Tribal Tech, UZEB and the Yellowjackets all day and cannot for the life of them find the “1” * not my phrase but beloved by some on BC... Dan Dare Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) 7 is closest, apart from my vintage Jazz. I never smile when I'm playing. Edited June 27, 2019 by Dan Dare Quote
Marillionred Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 (edited) He He that was (mildly) amusing. No 8 Metal - I don't recall the Warwick Corvette being particularly pointy? Methinks he doth confuse it with the Warwick Vampyre perhaps 🙂 Edited June 27, 2019 by Marillionred Typo correction Quote
Bassalarky Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 No 1 is closest for me but not so loud these days.... Quote
Cat Burrito Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 I relate mostly to 11 but it's probably only about 60% of the picture. I agree that it reads like lazy clickbait journalism but it gave me something to do for about 90 seconds. 1 Quote
