I Denby
Noob looking for straightforward small monitors for my incredibly simple set-up. Small and decent rather than quite big and awesome. Budget not really an issue. Any suggestions?
Bobthedog
I have a pari of Adam Audio T5V and am happy with them. It took some time to get used to the sound having come from a home stereo style Bose system but am very pleased I made the change. I also looked at the Yamaha HS5s. They were definitely louder but i was not happy with the slightly more tinny sound. Both are around £240 - 260 a pair. If I had the space I would have gone to 7" but being stuck in the eves of the house, sadly no room.
NancyJohnson
M-Audio BX5 here. They're powered and go painfully loud. I Just run a pair of cable from my PreSonus USB thing. Peachy.
songofthewind
Yamaha MSP5 here. Very good speakers, especially combined with a sub. Very detailed sound.

sammybee
Get yourself to a store where you can audition several sets of monitors side by side. Take a CD/thumb drive with music that you will be working on. Be guided by your ears rather than what people advise you on the internet! roman_sub
Yes, listen to monitors in a shop, using reference material you know well. Eve audio, Genelec and Adam are normally pretty good..

If budget really isn't an issue, then you might to check out these by UK-based company Unity Audio. Fantastic small speakers, but quite expensive (that being relative, of course): https://www.studiocare.com/unity-audio-the-pebble-2-way-active-monitor-pair.html

Also very good are the Amphion One12 https://amphion.fi/create/products-pro-audio/studio-monitors/one12-nearfield-studio-monitor/ I have the One18's and they are the best nearfields I've heard in 20 years. You'll need a decent amp too, which Amphion can sell or you can match someones elses. Not cheap but magnificent.

I have a pair of Rocks myself (MkII). Exceptionally clear and precise speakers. Had a minor fault with one of them (loose PCB that was vibrating), but they had it fixed and returned very quickly. Kevin and the team there are good guys; pleasure to deal with and genuinely passionate about what they do.
bazzbass
HS5s here and love them. If you can test a few brands next to each other do so, otherwise don't overthink it as whatever you choose, your ears get attuned to them
