steve-soar Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 After 20 odd years of listening to him and thank god for You Tube, being able to see him, he has always messed with my sensibilities of what it is to be a bass guitarist. Bi Polar disorder, incredible stamina, a musical knowledge of unimaginable proportions and thinking that you are it and a bit = Jaco. Quote

Monz Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 That did absolutely nothing for me at all, strikes me as someone stuck inside his own head and as long as he thinks it sounds good thats ok Stone me if you want to but thats my take on it Quote

Oscar South Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I'm not much of a Jaco fan, but that was awesome. Quote
Al-R Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 That one clip is still one the best bass solos I've heard, purely for the sudden interruption of the distorted section with the harmonics - lovely stuff. Always makes me smile and tap my foot. So good, it made me register and and post for the first time, so there you go. Ta, Al Quote

Ta, Al[/quote]Hi Al I'm so glad this thread made you join Basschat, we have had a few miserable weeks on here with people being ripped off and a general mankyness going on, hopefully this thread can carry on in a civil manner. God bless one and all. Quote

I've heard stories about JP picking up any old bass, not bothering to tune it.. or even f*** around with the machine heads, then play it note perfect! The man was a genius, no doubt. My gripe was/is this clip which IMO, does not show his great talent. In fairness to AI-R, when the distorted section comes on, if you weren't watching the clip, you'd swear he fell over and was trying to get back up! Heard him play so much better. Quote
steve-soar Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Well if I could get up off the floor when pissed (possibly tomorrow night) (stay away from the Corn Exchange... Liverpool) and sound that good, then I'll be happy. Quote
