I'd normally say maple any day of the week, but that's a very yellow headstock and I think the headstock on the rosewood one suits the bass body better.

durhamboy
I'm with the Rosewood too, with the color tones in that body it looks better to me.
Jimothey
Yeah me to I prefer Maple generally but the Rosewood does look better.........😀
Slappindabass
I had a go at routing the actual bass today. The Prejazzion Found the pickups more tricky. Then rouned the edges. I may have done this out of sequence with the body contouring. I love routers!👍

Slappindabass
The Black Limba body is a bit thick at 50mm. So after some rummaging in the garden and shed I managed to make this completely out of scrap. Works really well. It cost me nothing which is just how i like it. The grey noard was" salvaged" from a skip outside howdens. 6ft end panel with a tiny mark.

Immensely useful thing to have.
Slappindabass
I am toying with idea of routing the bridges in about the thickness of the bass plate to try and avoid any shimming being needed later on.
Slappindabass
Action shot of the home made thicknesser jig. Really pleased with it. And the end result.
Slappindabass
Had a go at the contours today. I used a farriers rasp that my neighbour gave me. I was dreading this part. I havent shaped any wood by hand since i made a dolphin on a stick in dt at 13 years old.😂 Pleased with the outcome. I need to grain fill the ash one. Not sure if the limba one needs filling or not or just give it one in the pants with some clearcoat.
SpondonBassed
Do you get the wavy edge effect looking down on the upper edge at the belly and forearm cuts?
Slappindabass
Not very wavy. Should it be? Its hard to tell what it should look like!
SpondonBassed
That looks fine to me. Just the suggestion of a reverse "S" shape where the edge is thinned by the carve. Sometimes the two cuts don't line up in such a pleasing way.
