Good! :) 👍

I'm glad you had a lovely evening & I hope Mrs 4000 is well :)

TFI Friday (not the 'restaurant')!

Was it jama steak? :D

Sweet dreams Ricky! 👍

Lush it was, with a Portobello mushroom the size of an actual hat! 😀

Returned home to find somebody has parked their car outside my house, and even that didn't provoke me to kill. 🤐

My best regards to your good self, and your good lady. 👍

1 - Was it a small bass-player's hat, or a 'Dave's' hat?

2 - Kill them tomorrow - don't spoil a lovely evening.

3 - Thank you kindly :)

👍

  1. Probably like a small hat that would fit a sheepdog.
  2. Yup, I can only pray that they're still there in the morning.
  3. Is it your car? If so, that's quite some trouble to go to for a joke! 🤗
  4. If it is your car, I will set my sheepdog on you, butt. 😄

It is my car - but it's based on the Batmobile™, so it's Ricky proof! :D

I like sheepdogses! :)

I'll go and see if it's impervious to wee... 😃

edit: I best wait until the street light goes out at 12...

edit: Dammit, splashed straight back on me and my shoes... bloody Batmobiles. 😬

We discussed ways we could destroy these when we were asked to sell them.

F*ckawful nightmares they were.

and the ones we did sell, broke.

like the Robots, Dusk tigers and DarkFire’s which led to this.

All shite.

This video does them no favours really.

Shame. Like a nice Gibson - it’s like enjoying U2, you feel a bit grubby because you know Bono is a bit of a tit.

Pal of mine recently picked up one of the satin finish SGs for £300 used, it's one of the nicest Gibsons I've ever played despite being the stripped down budget model. Can get the action super low and it absolutely sings, just goes to show they can still build a quality instrument every now and then but it's just a total lottery and the price tag has no bearing on anything.

Starting to think getting a good Gibson is purely down to chance, like the odds are that once in a while a decent guitar will slip out of the factory completely unnoticed,

It was always so.This is why an old gibson is generally good. The good ones got looked after, the bad ones got trashed, so the old ones left were the ones worth keeping.

From my POV, the way I would get an instrument is if I wanted an Ibanez, I would go online and order one, it would turn up and be fine. If I wanted a gibson, I would go to a shop with a large supply of them and try them all, to see which one was good, and get that one. In certain years they were almost all good (and in certain years they were almost all bad).

The general consensus is they are finally moving in the right direction, at least in terms of the electric guitar line. This is a 8 year old video? I don’t think it’s representative of where the company is right now.

Aye, so many "Im a Fender man", bassists out there. I have two Gibson EB3s and they are fabulous. I like the Firebird sound but they are just too big for me. Same as the anti Rickenbacker brigade, each to their own, never did old Chris from Yes any harm sound wise. Play what you like.

My previous link to this has been deleted for some reason. Look away if you're squeamish....

This is much more how you'd expect it to look - a guy in a back room with a bandsaw and a dumpster.  Which does sort of confirm that making such a big production of the Firebird X destruction must have been an intentional stunt.

I've spoken to a few retailers who (at least three) who got out of Gibson/Epiphone because they couldn't afford to carry the stock levels (and mixture of guitar values) required to remain being dealers.

Presumably those retailers who did respond to the pressure found themselves carrying large amounts of high-value stock. Gibson then faced with p***d off retailers - those faced with having to discount heavily to sustain their cashflow, and those horrified by the discounting undermining the value of the stock they were forced to take on.

This might explain Gibson destroying large amounts of guitars - to keep up the scarcity value of high end instruments, if they are faced with the alternative scenario of the collapse of a dealer network who refuse to restock with expensive guitars they know they won't be able to sell in a timely fashion while making a profit.

Don't quite get why he needs the break the neck before running everything through the bandsaw. Just feels a bit, I dunno, wanton?

Maybe to save cutting through the truss rod? He takes the top of the headstock off (with the Gibson logo) and combined with the set neck break at the body end is enough to render it unusable.
