Cat Burrito Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I rehearsed at a new rehearsal studio last night and the deal was that they provide cabs if you bring your head. My main head is the new Orange Terror head and I've used it in conjunction with a range of cabs, with no issues. However the cab I was given was a Peavey 2x15 and the head would slide across the cab as I played. I've been louder so I suspect it was more to do with the bracing of the old studio cab, rather than anything more sinister. I've never had that in 30yrs of playing! Any ideas of a low or no cost way to stop this from happening. I thought of possibly using a bungee cord as I assume the cab has side handles but something less obvious looking would be even better. I love that head and it's not normally a problem so really just looking for a quick fix on a cab that will only occasionally get used. Thoughts anyone? Quote
Paul S Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 That non-slip rubber grip mat stuff would do it. I had a similar problem with some of those very light D class heads, this solved it. 6 Quote

Cheap and easy remedy, Home Bargains / Poundstretcher / B&M type shops usually stock it for around a quid. 1 Quote
jezzaboy Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 That rubber grip stuff is also handy if you are playing sitting down without a strap. Just put it on your leg and the guitar body will stay in one place and not slide off your strides. 1 Quote
CamdenRob Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I usually just put the amp on the floor next to the cab when this happens. 3 Quote
Reggaebass Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 A piece of acoufoam , the same as cabinet isolation pads would do the job , it’s quite grippy 🙂 Quote
BreadBin Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Sanding blocks make excellent, inexpensive isolation pads. Quote

peteb Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I had a similar issue when I had a Mesa Subway amp - a non-slip rubber grip map worked a treat... Quote
steantval Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I generally find that placing a wine gum under each corner does the trick. 1 1 Quote

chris_b Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I would rather my amp wasn't being vibrated as much as that. I'd put it on something else other than the 215. Quote
ahpook Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 (edited) Put the cab on the amp. I think that's safe... Edited August 1, 2019 by ahpook Quote

I thought the same TBH, the cab really shouldn't be vibrating that much. Some older cabs seem to do this unfortunately . ( When I've used a tiny GK MB200 on top of my Barefaced Compact it's never moved at all ). Quote
Cat Burrito Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 I ordered a non slip mat. The speakon cable isn't long enough to have the head elsewhere & the studio is up too many stairs to drag my cab out. Thanks for the input all. 1 Quote
