I had the body made/finished from a Italian ebayer. Cost £280 and the finish is outstanding!

All parts meaty neck. Has a brass shim.

hipshot tuners. Omega bridge. Seymour Duncan quarter pounders.

Scratch plate is acrylic - finding a real chrome one is difficult!

Plays great!

Drilled through the headstock when mounting the tuners! Oops!

Where’s that body from?! As in...link! Brilliant colour

I bought it eBay a few years ago and as such I can't find it as purchases only go back a year or so. I think I searched fro Royal Blue sparkle or some such. Sorry!

That Sparkle Blue looks amazing.  I had one of those MIJ Steve Harris P's from about 2009 (the ones before the WHU badge MIM ones) and I reckon I'd find it hard to tell the difference in the 2 paint jobs.  Lovely!

Here's my Fender SH for comparison:

and a close up showing the blue metal flake over a Lake Placid Blue finish:

You kept that one quiet....... If you ever decide to sell it, please, give me first option. That's the one I have always been after and would go beautifully with my red sparkle.

Sorry Matt, it went a few years ago!  Sold it to @SH73

Exactly what I’d do if I had one of these basses. That’s beautiful

I swap the gold and chrome plates over depending on my mood/ how much Maiden I've listened too.

also the gold plate is 1/3 of the weight of the chrome one...

You need a black 70’s P for the chrome one, you seen the £13k Phil Lynott bass?!

if I could get that finish on a p/j with a gold Guard...I’d sell everything I own.

Yeah £13k is a little excessive.

I once got a couple of quotes from Shuker for a black PJ with a chrome plate and a Blue Sparkle PJ with a chrome plate. I was about £1500 - £1600 for either option

Later addition?

From the comments it appears to be original. I guess people were still experimenting with what was 'right' in those days.

It's a perfectly sensible material to use... for many years I had this rough and ready repair (done in teh years before cheap pickguards became available on eBay!)
