Half the accounts are Fender shills. No matter what the question is, thirty lads are lined up to tell you Fender is the answer. A depressing turn of events as it used to be a decent resource.

Good job BC isn't Fender obsessed...

We took lots of ideas from TB but left some others out - for example I still don’t like the ‘supporting member’ system because it creates a sort of two tier class system where supporting members tend to feel their opinion is more important.

I have a problem with them because I made a comment about being chuffed with my new Warwick RB Corvettes on one of the threads and was met with a barrage of abuse about they aren’t real Warwicks and they shouldn’t have the Warwick name on them blah blah blah!!!!! 🤬

Just try saying you bought a ClassD amp by  MarkBass or that you love the sound of your 4x10 on top of your 1x15 and wait for the abuse...

The site was the inspiration for this one and there’s a huge amount of experience and some great people on there. With any site that size you’re going to get some derrières who like the sound of their own voice but imo if you ask a good question and don’t give them any room for stupid replies to generally can find what you need.

^^ +1

The end.  You can close the thread now ped :)

Actually I'm more active on TB because there are so many users to the point you can find groups for specific fields of interest. So your questions have more chances to have a very spot-on, insightful answer on a very specific topic.

The more "specific" the better, for my needs.

I don't get the hate honestly. I make good laughs there too.

Isn't it just!! 😬

I once made a suggestion on Talkbass (they had a thread inviting suggestions for improvements) that rather than everyone who wasn't interested in Fender threads having to wade through loads to find, say a Gibson thread, they create a sticky thread called Fender threads, so those who wanted them could easily find them and everyone else could ignore them.

There was a very odd reaction from lots of people who appeared to be, possibly Fender employees, seemingly worried about the lack of advertising exposure if this entirely sensible suggestion was adopted (it's actually blatant plagiarism on my part because many specialist subject forums do group their subject areas in this way for that exact reason!!)

However I generally find TB a useful resource and the people are generally pretty friendly - so I'm afraid I don't agree with the OP.

Ive been a member for years and years - never had a problem. There’s some helpful folks on there.

I just bear in mind that they’re generally American, and there’s far more of ‘em than there is on BC - that way, there’s no suprises.

If you REALLY want summick to whinge about, get yourself over to the old FDP. That place was the village of the damned for Fender lovers.

I have been on Talkbass since 2007 and have never been abused, slagged off or insulted. Every now and then I've had disagreements and people have disagreed with me. That's life!

I've always found TB and the vast majority of its members to be a great source of information, opinion, experience and ideas. There are always things to learn, stuff to agree with and stuff to ignore. Isn't that the point? You take what's good and disregard the rest.

I only joined the "other" site, because I can't access BC at work ( I suspect that the company's security system assumes that the "B" in "BassChat" is silent! :D ).

It certainly doesn't feel as "inclusive" as BC, but there again, it's a far bigger site.

But is it the best forum for metal? 🙄

They're obsessed with 'best for metal' over there.

It's an ok site. Yes, there are a few smart-derrières but most of time it's pleasant. Not like the feeding frenzy of RRF or the minefield that is mylespaul.com

Same difference you'll find between metropolis/small towns.

And to be fair, when it comes to smart*sses and "abuse" I have read a few days ago someone addressing a new user with "idiots like you" here on BC. 9_9

So if on the bigger the site there are more rude people, maybe it's just for a mere statistical reason.

Just think the folks here are a much friendlier bunch than that “other” site across the pond. A lot of folks there act like they’ve small willies or something.

Disagree with you there. TBH this place reeks of jealousy most the time when talking about Talkbass. I have found it a hub of useful information and some very friendly people.

How many times has someone on BC said a Precision is all you need? That argument doesn't wash with me.

I pop over occasionally, mostly just to make me realise what a surprisingly reasonable lot we are on here. For the amount of people who contribute this really is one way of the most grown up sites I’ve ever been on. I’ve had some hilarious and instant reactionary spats across the pond on the ‘other’ site. Perhaps we should build a wall to keep them out?

They're already building one in the South. What we need is for Canada to build one in the North, then the rest of the world can chip in for a lid.

I'd say more the butthurt type of reaction.

I signed up to Talkbass a few years ago, purely because the ongoing Sadowsky thread is a great source of information, on account that Roger Sadowsky himself takes part in the discussions (in a friendly,  reasonable, no hard sales pitch, matter of fact kind of way, which is great). Yes, there is certainly a great deal of brand-shilling in there, but there are also highly knowledgeable members on the site that have intricate knowledge of certain brands and products I like (for example the on-going Mesa Walkabout megathread). So there is definitely an upside to the 'club' aspect of Talkbass. The site is also hugely busy and with so many threads I am not surprised a few posters stick to a few 'club' sub-forums.

Some of the passive aggressive posting, and constant 'do a search, we covered this already 9 months ago as part of a sub-conversation on a separate club site' to essentially every thread started by a non-supporting member is a bit off-putting, but it is what it is.

However, immediately after signing up, I realised that I already spend more than enough time on this site. Consequently, I have not logged into Talkbass once.

I have discovered interesting and helpful info on ‘the other site’ whilst also experiencing the ‘hilarious and reactionary spats’ that I mention in my first comment. What I didn’t mention in that first comment (Im not going to blame being sloshed, it was two glasses of wine sloshed, not enough for excuses) is that the first sentence of this description also pretty much goes for BC too. Both sites have helped me make purchasing choices and also made me so livid I’ve considered leaving. As always with forums, be they here, there or anywhere, they are little microcosms of society with things to like and dislike... Yesterday I was just feeling like a disgruntled Mexican.
