markdavid
Hi Am after some tips for palm muting, I have a song that my band plays where it features palm muting very prominently, what I am having trouble with is gauging the amount of pressure to use to mute and keeping that pressure consistent, any tips? thanks
DoubleOhStephan
Assuming you're using a pick, I find the best way is to use the edge of your hand just resting on the strings near the bridge. You don't need any pressure really, just touching is enough to create a mute.

Reggaebass
I play with the thumb quite a lot playing reggae and I rest the side of my palm softly across the bridge, but one of the hardest things is to get an even volume across all strings as the D and G will sound quieter, I used to practice 2 octave scales slowly until I got an even tone , then as wateroftyne says it will come naturally 🙂
greghagger
Try just using your thumb and like the other replies said, apply light pressure and it will come with practice.

This means you can use the same plucking pressure on all strings
