chris_b Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 (edited) Unashamedly nicked from a thread on that terrible Talkbass. . . . . Damn, I've got to practice harder! Ex-Prince bassist Sonny T stretching out. . . . Edited August 8, 2019 by chris_b 4 Quote

casapete Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Crikey, very impressive. Also, who knew Russel Kane played such amazing funk guitar? 😆 1 Quote
ben4343 Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Very cool. And, a left handed bass, strung like a right hander...? Quote
burno70 Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 (edited) Listened to this a few months ago - awesome awesome track. Much love for this band - and not just Dart. Woops - should have read the OT! Not seen this version, will listen at home. Thanks for posting. Edited August 9, 2019 by burno70 Quote

I think the theory used to be that left-handed players could only get hold of right-handed basses when they started playing, so therefore just spun basses around and played them left-handed ‘upside down’. Or of course he just felt that he wasn’t being challenged enough with the more orthodox string arrangement. 😁 Quote
chris_b Posted August 10, 2019 Author Posted August 10, 2019 This happens when you are left handed and you just grab a right handed bass and learn how to play it like that. Stan Sargeant with Keb Mo plays like this and Albert King used to. It's no handicap, you just play the same stuff, but differently. Quote
musicbassman Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 .... and not forgetting the wonderful Mononeon ! 🤗 2 Quote
Steve_M Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 Check out the amazing Jimmy Haslip too. 2 Quote
casapete Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 Also Lee Pomeroy, ( ace session bassist with Jeff Lynne’s ELO, Take That, Steve Hackett, It Bites etc) plays left handed but strung the ‘wrong’ way up. Sounds great too. Quote
fleabag Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 My pal does something just as odd. Plays a right handed Stingray, but left handed, so the knobs are all at the top, but he doesnt restring it, so the strings are back to front. Quote
stewblack Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 That is just amazing. The whole thing. I think CWs reaction says it all. And that guy can play, if JD ever got sick they have quite a capable dep right there. Quote
