BenHorne
I just got my new(used) 4003, but the pick-up cover is removed. Is it just to take off the two screws on each side of the pick-up, and put it on? I suspect it is more to it than this...
acidbass
I don't own a Rickenbacker myself, but I suspect it may well be a simple screw on job as it's simply a superficial addition to your bass. Hope this helps Danny
Bassassin
Sadly not quite as easy as that - you need to remove the strings, then unscrew the pickup surround from the bass & remove the pickup from that. The cover is assembled from underneath the surround & the screws & springs hold the lot together. Fortunately for those not brought up on Meccano & building go-karts from old prams & rusty tin cans, Rickenbacker have a handy-dandy diagram on their website: http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/bpickups.pdf Hope this makes more sense than my garbled explanation. Delberthot
Aye its a bit of a pain in the bum to put them on. Just watch that the springs don't ping away when you're putting it together.
Happy Jack
Just watch that the springs don't ping away when you're putting it together.
+1 - those springs can be VERY fiddly. I assume that you've played a 4003 with the treble cover in place? Most people hate it. If you haven't had a Ric before, you may want to try one with the cover in place before you go to the trouble of re-fitting yours. Just saying ... Bassassin
They do look loads better - the bridge pickup & the vast crater it sits in ain't designed to be seen. Alternatively, there's Pickguardian. J.
Delberthot
I had the pickguardian thingy in all of my Ricks as my natural playing position is right over the pickup I never get tired of this picture
Happy Jack
As a result of which, I fitted the Pickguardian to my 1984 JetGlo and it looks les coulis du chien.
Old Horse Murphy
I had the pickguardian thingy in all of my Ricks as my natural playing position is right over the pickup I never get tired of this picture
That's got to be one of the nicest Rics I think I've ever seen. And if it's any good to anyone, I have a spare chrome coloured Pickguardian (with the perspex topper too). £15 in P&P for the both. I have one on my Ric and it's a very simple but effective piece of kit.
