Chrisbassboy5
Talking Bass advocate usingbtge left leg to rest the bass for sitting playing but for me it twists my spine and does, in some way make playing easier.. what's everybodies view. Not something I ever considered or was taught...?
dave_bass5
Never thought this question would come up, but yeah, right leg for me and i play right handed. It just feels a lot more comfortable to me.
phil.c60
Left leg for me..........but I'm left handed! I do, however, cross my left leg over my right so that's another permutation for you.
Reggaebass
Right for me and I’m right handed but I’m working on some Tony Grey techniques at the moment and he talks about this , because he uses the left leg, I tried it but it feels odd 🙂 Edited August 21, 2019 by Reggaebass
Monkey Steve
That's just weird - right leg for right handed players Not that I've ever thought about it, it just feels right...er...correct on that leg. However, now that i have thought about it, the weirder using your left leg seems - the bass seems in an unnatural position compared to where it will hang if you are playing standing up. dave_bass5
To me it feels correct having the bridge sitting as close as it does when standing. Having it on the left leg pushes it too far away from my natural plucking position, and as mentioned earlier means a bit of a torso twist. Stylon Pilson
The fact that we're having this debate suggests that the shape of bass guitars is wrong. Instead of having a concave curve along the lower edge, perhaps it should be convex so that it fits between our thighs? S.P.
Cato
Right handed, right leg. I'm at home this week so I just grabbed a bass and tried it on the left leg. Maybe it's closer to where it would be if it was hanging on the strap, but I found twisting round that extra bit really uncomfortable. Not to mention that the first fret suddenly feels miles away. ped
When you say left leg I presume it’s in the style of Hadrien Feraud where I guess it gives better access to upper frets for solo playing? 1

Great for exercise up the neck, but a bit of a ball-ache further down.....

Not something I ever considered or was taught...? OMG! It works!! 😮 It's much more inline (horizontally), with the standing position, and now there's a curve in the bass that fits my right moob nicely. 😬 Everything I thought I knew was wrong! Muzz
If I put the Shukerbird or the Dingwall on my left leg I can barely see the first fret, let alone reach it...
Lfalex v1.1
(Just to be difficult) Either leg! I watched a classical guitar vid, and they all favour their left leg (being predominantly right- handed), so I thought I'd give it a try. It does seem that R leg gives better lower fret access as it's a shorter reach.

That's how I play, but don't really get up the dusty end. I have really long arms so don't struggle for reach.
Ricky 4000
Its also a much more modest position if you're playing naked. 🤒
Marvin
Neither. Always use a strap, same height sat down or stood up. Never sits on my leg.
