GravitonSelfIntetactionXD Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 The title is pretty much self-explanatory "What do you guys think is the hardest piece of music to play on an electric bass?". There aren't any restrictions, songs from any music genre(even classical music) will do and the piece doesn't have to be originally composed for electric bass. I know this question is largely opinion based and that's why I'm asking for YOUR OPINIONS xd. 1 Quote
Stylon Pilson Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 I tell you, I've been trying to play "Three Blind Mice" for the last 19 years and still haven't mastered it. So I'm going to say that one. S.P. 1 1 Quote
KiOgon Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 I reckon if you can master Hit me with your rythm stick, you can give yourself a gold medal 😃 7 Quote
paul_c2 Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Wasn't "Hit me with your rhythm stick" Grade 7 on one of the exam syllabuses, I think the Trinity one? And there's a whole bunch of Grade 8 tunes. And stuff harder than that, obviously, too, out there. Quote
Twigman Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Anything that involves slapping - a technique that I find impossible - but that's not really bass playing, is it? It's just making a racket. 6 4 Quote
Doctor J Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 If you can play the stuff on Unquestionable Presence or Control And Resistance, you’re alright in my book. Quote
miles'tone Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Havona - Weather Report. Far beyond where I'll ever get to! 1 Quote
BassTractor Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 ...and we have a winner: Karlheinz Stockhausen: "Gesang der Jünglinge". Incredibly hard to play on an electric bass. I'd seriously like to know whether this thread has a goal, an aim or a purpose. 4 Quote

Makes it look a piece of fosters on an instrument usually reserved for primary school kids (and me ) Quote
itu Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Paganini, but that is violin stuff and thus very hard. Dragonetti - the Paganini of bass - has done kinky stuff for double bass. Edgar Meyer and Niels-Henning Ørstedt-Pedersen have played some very hard arrangements. A local record reviewer had a doubt that NHØP was actually two persons playing two basses... A young player may find it hard to play rests, or long enough notes, or legato. I still do have issues with all three. 1 Quote
Unknown_User Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Of the things I have actually learned how to play/can get near to playing, I would say "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5. Mainly because of that middle eight bit. After a couple of goes round that at full speed the fingers on my fretting hand tend to be tied in knots! Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 I find learning complex stuff harder than playing it, if that makes sense? The fingers are faster than the brain... Quote
