BassAgent Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 There are many, but one colour or other kind of finish on a bass must be your favourite. Mine, for example, is Olympic White: 5 Quote
Woodinblack Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Hard to say, I like olympic white, but I have none. So as my favourite basses are Poplar burl or Redburst ash, I guess those! Quote
Frank Blank Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Matte black or dark natural wood. Currently, obviously, this is my favourite finish on a bass that @Jabba_the_gut is building for me.... 1 Quote
Lozz196 Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Olympic White for me, with rosewood fretboard and either black or tort pick-guard. Ironic really given I don’t have a bass in that colour scheme as maple fretboards work better for my current needs. Quote
walshy Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 I do love old Olympic White, like my ‘69 but the Custom Shop I’ve just picked up of Oly White over Candy Apple Red heavy relic 🤪😍 3 Quote
bassfan Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 I love olly white, sonic blue and shell pink, but at the minute it’s my indigo flip flop 4 Quote
drTStingray Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Difficult choice Equal 1st - blue sparkle Pastel shades Sunburst Natural 1 Quote
Dood Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 How many BassChatters know my answer already? 3 2 Quote
BrunoBass Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Black or white. I’m a sucker for Capri Orange too. I’m not over keen on sunburst, or natural finishes. I much prefer solid colours. Quote
onehandclapping Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 I ok with any finish as long as it’s “original finish” 1 Quote
chris_b Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 You can't beat a good three tone sunburst with tort and rosewood. 1 Quote

BigRedX Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 Depends on the bass. Some instruments suit one style of finish some another. However I don't like instruments with worn or damaged finishes. Quote
Paul S Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 I favour black. Either black bodies, bwb scratchplate and a maple neck and fretboard or the all black stealth look with no scratchplate, ebony board and painted headstock.. Quote
CameronJ Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 I love natural wood grain, and love it even more when finished with a translucent stain. Quote

Andythefat Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 Kind of pleased with my recent effort, inspired by Scott Devine’s ‘bass of doom’....I see it’s a popular colour scheme! 2 Quote
Maude Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 It depends on the bass but I am sucker for vintage white/cream. I don't like natural wood yet I wouldn't want my 4005 in anything else. I don't particularly like sunburst yet my Bex4, which I love the look of) is tobacco burst and I have a matching P and J in 3TSB. I don't really like black, it doesn't stand out on stage, yet I bought a Club bass in black as it looked so much better than the classic Hofner burst. I do really like retro pastel shades yet don't any. Basically I have preferences but if it suits the bass then I like it. Quote
thodrik Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 (edited) I don't own one, but in the 70s Fender did walnut coloured finishes on some of their basses. I love that finish, particularly on a P Bass . Also Walnut finished Gibson SG guitar...yes. Also, I love translucent black as a finish, particularly on a Fender-type bass. Twigman Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 I like an oiled neck (EBMM style) - I dislike intensely gloss finishes on necks. I like the idea of a nitro body but all my basses have poly finishes Quote

It evokes watching The Sweeney, being savagely duffed-up by the school bullies (and being told "not to be such a bloody jessie" if you were stupid enough to tell teachers/parents), winters of discontent and @Stub Mandrel's teenage diet. Ahh, happy days. 1 Quote
