MOSCOWBASS
Does anybody know who the bassist is and what bass he's playing? Thanks Edited September 8, 2019 by MOSCOWBASS
Delberthot
In 1989 it could have been James Finnegan but it doesn't look like him in the picture. It was around then I think that he stopped working with them and started with Stiltskin
kodiakblair
Could it be a very young Coco Cunningham ?
JohnR
Pretty sure it isn't Finn. He always played a Wal during this period.
ped
Think the bass might be a Lag (French)
BrunoBass
Is it Will Lee? Pretty sure he was with them around then. I think he played on their 1988 album ‘Remote’. Edited September 8, 2019 by BrunoBass
MOSCOWBASS
Apparently it is James Finnegan, been speaking to guitarist on the gig, Nigel Clark. Still not sure about the make of bass, Schecter has been mentioned Edited September 8, 2019 by MOSCOWBASS
NikNik
Looks like a Valley Arts Guitars logo. They were pretty popular back then.
ped
Here’s the Lag bass I was thinking of. Looks the same shape, just this one has binding. http://forum.laboitenoiredumusicien.com/viewtopic.php?t=2913

I've known Nigel since we were kids, we lived 2 or 3 doors apart. I've played in Dunoon many times, used to play in the Glen Morag hotel....did you know John Peel drums? White Cloud
That is James Finnegan. I bought his Vigier Arpege from him back in the day: oddly enough, he bought a nice vintage Fender Jazz from me!

BigRedX
Got to say that's a boring looking bass, but then again it goes nicely with Hue and Cry's boring sounding music. 😉

timplog
another Lag found in seattle US a few years ago nicely built should've kept it but didn't get on with 5 strings at the time cheers

Misdee
I read somewhere that James Finnegan is a school music teacher nowadays. I remember seeing him playing that bass back in those days. Excellent player, and I quite liked Hue And Cry at the time. Saw them opening for Madonna. Where has the time gone?
NancyJohnson
Crikey, now there's a band I hadn't thought of for a long, long time. A mate of mine was a huge fan (he was also very big on getting groups of people who didn't know each other together as well); he organised tickets for a Hue and Cry gig at the Wilde Theatre, Bracknell about 20 years ago, perhaps longer. I can't find a single reference to it online, so I could have dreamt it, but unlikely. I guess there were about 20 of us. I'll profess I only knew Labour of Love (as did about 18 or us)...they did two coma-enducing sets with an intermission between and I swear about half the audience didn't return for the second half. I couldn't tell you what they played, how many were in the band, anything. I do however remember eating a rather splendid cheeseburger beforehand and had a pint between sets, beyond that? Nada.
