Fitting an overlong 'C extension' E string on a standard 3/4

I've found a good deal on a used E-string which I'd like to try out, however at over 2 metres long it's going to need some work fitting onto my 3/4..

Anyone with string knowhow able to advise whether this is a good idea or pure folly?
