project_c
i'm not sure if there's been a thread about this already, but i'm on the lookout for a decent rehearsal room in north / central london, i know for a fact there's loads of unknown little no-frills spaces out there perfect for hiring for a few hours a week, does anyone have any good suggestions? the cheaper the better. thanks. Cantdosleepy
Scar in Camden is cheap, but the top room is right next to the overground tracks, so there's a distracting hum in all the equipment. Rooz by Old Street is lovely, but I'm not sure what the pricing is there. Vatican near Stepney Green is okay for the price and friendly, but the equipment there isn't always the best. I'm afraid I can't remember exact prices. For a three hour session we'd pay about 60 quid for Vatican, including drum and amp rental. Scar slightly cheaper than that I think... ahpook
my band uses audio underground in stoke newington, which is good.
Musky
Islington Arts Factory opposite Holloway prison(!) is decent enough and cheap. The two rooms are small (£9 and £10 p/h respectively with all the gear bar cymbals) but they seem to hire out a larger room upstairs now as well, though I haven't seen that. There's Bona Fide in Curtain Road as well.
stinson
We use Karma in Stoke Newington. Does the job nicely.
project_c
nice one, good suggestions so far, didn't know about scar, it's just down the road from me, although it looks like they're in danger of getting shut down going by what it says on their site (http://www.scarstudios.com/home/). does anyone know much about transmission studios in camden? they have a small room for £8 an hr, although it looks like they're relocating. M4L666
I use my drummer's house but then my band is quite economically small. And they probably wouldn't take us seriously. And I can't afford £8/hr let alone £9 or £10...
molan
I used to use Mill Hill Music - might be too far north for you though. Sometimes also known as Unit 25: http://www.millhillmusic.co.uk/ There's a couple of really big rooms here I reckon one of them must be 30' by 20' and has a stupidly big PA set up with decent monitors etc. It's all a bit dingy but worked for us over several years. ardi100
Fortress in Old Street are good (not cheap), as is Gun Factory in Stoke Newington. We used to use Enterprise in Leicester Square till they turned it into a champagne bar(!!).
jmstone
Unit 9 down in Balham are very good.. around £30 for a 3 hr session inc. drums, 2 guitar amps and 1 bass amp.. (although times are set to be fairly awkward).. I like them a lot though.. enough to trek down there from Archway!! (maybe also 'cos most of the rest of the band live in South London). Bush Studios run a similar kind of deal - pretty good for the money.. in Shepherd's Bush. Scar, I think is pretty terrible for the money (despite being cheapish)... The rooms are pretty small, and the equipment is close to broken. Bona Fide were even worse (unless you like your rehearsal room to be growing mould on the walls!) For a bit more cash, "The Premises" are excellent... but a bit hard to get to. Would be interested to hear about others though... The Premises are in Bethnal Green, and are good, but a bit pricey http://www.premisesstudios.com/ James

It's very nice in there and quite competitive on price but I didn't mention it because the OP was looking for something as cheap as possible.
