Mike
Hi all I opted not to do a thread this time as I suspected it would take the best part of a year (it has) and I thought it would get boring. So here is a fully condensed version! My 5 string was built to match a four Jon built me already. -33" Scale -Delano pups -Macasser board -Shuker EQ 3 band -Red LEDs Here she is! At this point, I felt it was darker than I wanted. Jon resprayed for me. So here is the finished product! If you fancy seeing more pictures, take a look at my gear porn thread. I took some with the Shuker 4 too! Shukers! Cheers! eude
That's gorgeous Mike! Certainly worth the wait I'd imagine. How you getting on with the 33" scale? How's it tuned? I'm still loving it. Cheers, Eude
7string
Looks pretty darn good. What a great way to end the year
budget bassist
That's effing gorgeous!!! May i ask what made you opt to go for a shorter scale length rather than longer as most people do on a 5 string? Enjoy her
Veils
Wow! That is one of the nicest looking basses I have seen from Jon. Absolutely gorgeous!
peted
That certainly is eye candy. Good call on the colour, you won't miss that bass on stage! Will definitely have to hook up at some point this year to talk bass
Mike
Thanks chaps! Strung B-G though I may be tempted with a high C in the future! 33" feels very comfortable and the B string seems very defined. Very nice tension, and a great sound. Al Heeley
Lovely lovely lovely! Any pics of the rear (mmmm....) and the neck? Surprised and interested about the shorter scale and low B, I thought you'd have to go the other way with a low B and get a longer (35"?) scale to suit the tension/tone better? Mike
Thanks everyone! Diezeonze - the 33" scale is why I'm interested in your L.Kah bass! Al - I know 35" is accepted as being better for 5 strings. But in my research, a lot of people put their faith in the skill of the luthier to get it right. I see a few top pros using 33" on 5 or 6 strings. Jon has done a great job with the low B, it's very firm and sounds great. I'll see if I can grab any more pictures. Joe - I think Jon is making some really special basses right now.

Mike's right, there's a bit of magic that certain luthiers can instil in their instruments to make them work. Fodera do a roaring trade in 33" basses with low Bs, CB Basses have even done a couple of 32" 6 strings with low Bs which worked great too so I'm told. Here's a wee clip of me playing my Shuker, where I use the low B string towards the end, apologies for the sloppy playing >> http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk/03SlapandFingerFunk.mp3 I've been using my bass live and for recording exclusively and the low B out performs every 6er I've owned and most of the ones I've had a go of too, bar a loverly 33" Fodera I tried in Boston a few years back, which is what finally convinced me go for the 33" for my custom bass having struggled with regular and larger scale basses all my life. I really don't think I'd ever go back to a 34" now. Cheers, Eude

Spent all last night trying to do my best Jaco Pastorius impression, first time I've ever had a bass that could get so close to the trademark tone.
