paul_5
Heard some Journey on the radio today; actually very impressed! Great tone and perfect for the song. Not into the MOR sound at all, but some nice playing underneath all of that schtick.
Krysbass
Agreed. There's more to Journey than the now ubiquitous "Don't Stop Believing". "Stone in Love" is a case in point bass-wise.
steantval
One of my favourite bands, seen them twice, top quality musicians. Found another great vocalist in Arnel Pineda to replace the legendary Steve Perry. Edited September 21, 2019 by steantval
Roger2611
We do Seperate Ways as a cover, relatively simple bassline but suits the song extremely well!
Stub Mandrel
I love the bassline on anyway you want it. I think Escape Frontiers showed what a good band they could have been if they had embraced a heavier sound. arthurhenry
I would have thought it was well known amongst musicians that all of Journey were/are fantastically talented. Ross Valory is a great player. The last half of Stone In Love is incredible. Live album Captured is also highly recommended, as is Randy Jackson's bass playing on the Raised On Radio album.

But tainted by much of their output being the epitome of MOR AOR.
cetera
Ross Valory is not only an accomplished bassist.... but also a champion 'gurner'... lol! Loved his tone and his interesting choice of basses too.... from a P Bass with J neck, to a Peavey T-40, to an Ovation Magnum, to a Steinberger, to a Jackson Concert to a Curbow and more.... never boring and ALWAYS with great 'mid-boosted' tone!

I'm not a musician which probably explains why I've not known this.

4000
Brilliant band. Never understood the hate. But then I seldom do.
Stub Mandrel
Funnily enough 'Lights' is on Planet Rock right now. Makes me want to be a record producer - a song that desperately needs a dose of grit to stop it sounding like the Bee Gees with an excellent guitar over the top. Now 'Wheel in the Sky' is an excellent song - but every time I hear it I think it's Heart...
4000
Well I love the Bee Gees and Heart too....
