Rexel Matador Posted September 25, 2019 Share Posted September 25, 2019 On a bass with a P pickup set directly into the top (no scratchplate) does shielding the cavity actually have an effect? My understanding is that cavity shielding should create a closed faraday cage, which would not be the case here. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance! Well I have made 3 precisions and have done it on all of them. They are not noisy, in fact they're silent. I can only assume the shielding helps. All that's required then is a sharp scalpel or scissors to cut it with and some paper and scissors to make templates. I've shielded my P (cavity and rear of scratchplate) with the exception of around the jack (which is very snug so was shorting when touching the shielding). Even with that bit missing it's totally silent. Wasn't hard at all, just did it in stages cutting to size as needed. (pic before shielding around Jack removed). I tried it and it didn't seem to work as well as another one I did just using foil from the kitchen. Maybe I didn't use enough though.
