zelak999
Hi all, Just wondering if you folks have any recommendations for insurance for my bass gear? We are about to embark on a mini tour up and down the UK in our beat up van and i'll be happier knowing my gear is insured. Its surprising how quickly the total value tots up! Twigman
I use these guys https://www.insure4music.co.uk/ I've never had to claim so I can't comment on their claim handling but their cover seems reasonable enough and easy to set up.
Monkey Steve
this lot: https://www.newmooninsurance.com/ Like @Twigman I've never had to claim so can't share any experience of that, but much cheaper than previous insurance I've had...and the mods should be along shortly with a BassChat discount code if memory serves
Monkey Steve
One point to add The devil in all insurance is in the detail, and it's worth checking all of the small print, and speaking to the insurers to make sure that the cover actually applies in the circumstances you need it. For instance, if you're off in a van you may want to add unattended vehicle cover, which sounds great. But in fact the cover only applies if the insured item is left in the locked vehicle and isn't visible from outside. If your gear is in the back of a van in a sealed section with no windows then you'll be OK, but if it's left on the seats in the front, or if the back has windows and any passer by can see all the equipment then it won't apply and your stuff will not be insured (so always take your bass to the hotel room at night)
Lozz196
I use New Moon, pretty impressed with them as you itemise your gear (so do have to remember if adding or selling) which I would think makes claims a little easier.
CamdenRob
This topic crops up from time to time with lots of different suggestions, but I have never actually heard of someone who has had their gear nicked then made a successful claim. If anyone has I’ll change my insurance to whoever they are using tomorrow 😐 Im currently covered under the contents insurance with Aviva, with my bass gear covered as specified items to be covered outside the house and also for professional use (for the rare occasions I receive a few beer tokens for a gig). A lot of the specialist music gear policies only appeared to cover my gear whilst I was actually playing it... not when in a back stage room unattended etc. My current policy apparently covers all eventualities but as ever I’ll only find out if that’s true in the event I have to make a claim. My gear is covered against theft and accidental damage at home, on stage, in the dressing room and in an unattended vehicle... pretty much anywhere. All worldwide too. Like seemingly everyone else I’ve thankfully never had to make a claim so I can’t comment on that. The price is reasonable though. We couldn't even get cover for it in our rehearsal room which was on the 3rd floor of a private residence unless we had bars fitted to the (very small) window first. RossHetherington
All the expensive things I own are specifically listed on my home contents insurance.

I had a similar experience. Always used Allianz in the past, never a problem, but hadn't needed specific cover for a while so let it lapse. Then needed some cover last year for one bass and went with Allianz. Admittedly it was an expensive bass, but when I wanted to extend the cover to all of my gear New Moon did it for not much more than I was paying Allianz for that single bass, and a lot less than Allianz would have wanted shame there's not a Go Compare specifically for this cover

I thought about that - but it turns out it wouldn't cover them if I earned any money, or theft from cars / venues etc.
Pea Turgh
Insurance policies differ from provider to provider - just read the policy booklet (usually downloadable to anyone) to make sure you know what you are buying. Lack of understanding is the primary gripe of most people who say things like “they’re all crooks” etc.
