BigRedX
Thanks for all the comments! Just come back from my third rehearsal using this bass, and I still can't believe how good it is! It is probably the best instrument I have ever played - and it's mine! Custom builds can be a bit of a lottery as you never know exactly how and instrument is going to perform until it's built. Martin has done and excellent job in translating what I wanted from a bass into a reality, and beyond that. I find myself using this bass on songs that previously I would never have considered using fretless simply because it's so versatile and because the low notes are so well defined. We've been putting the finishing touches to a new song that up until now I'd been playing on my fretted Gus which sounded great. However with our new lead guitarist we've made some changes in the arrangement and I could hear a couple of places where sliding sustained notes would be cool, but I wasn't sure how fretless would sound on the rest of the song which is punchy and aggressive. Just for fun I decided to try the Sei. A small tweak to the ACG pre and punchy and aggressive - no problem! I can see this being an instrument that will continue to surprise me in this way for some time to come.
