Soledad
Did any 80s / early 90s MIJ Fenders have a black plastic shim between the neck plate and body? Never recall seeing this but I'm no expert.
LeftyJ
My E-serial (1984-1987) Strat does, my K-serial (1990-1991) Silver Series Strat does not. Edited October 1, 2019 by LeftyJ
LeftyJ
Edited after I got home and checked my other MIJ Strat. Strangely, one does have the shim and the other doesn't. Not very helpful then 😅
BreadBin
My '85 Jazz Bass Special doesn't.
Bassassin
I can report my mid 80s E-serial MIJ Squier Strat does, as did my '84 SQ serial Squier P. Any excuse for a pic of the most gorgeous bookmatched grain & burst ever... 8

It's one aspect of a bass I needed to check. So this is GOOD. May have to buy it... that is BAD p.s. and WOW that Squier Strat back is tasty indeed👍 Edited October 1, 2019 by Soledad

Gorgeous colour & grain, lovely matching red hue to the scratchplate too I'm a big fan of MIJ Fenders. None of mine ever had a plastic shim in the pocket (that includes 80's and early 90's models) But that doesn't mean none of them did..... If it plays well with the shim in place, then leave it. If you can improve set-up after removing it, then do that But if it aint broke.... leave it alone. Let us know how you get on with it
Ricky 4000
I think he means a plastic spacer or coaster, that fits under the neck plate: Edited October 2, 2019 by Ricky 4000

Oddly enough though, none of my MIJ / CIJ Fenders have had those EDIT: Though I once had a non Fender MIJ bass which included one Edited October 2, 2019 by Marc S

Shims in the neck pocket would be a walk away for me. It's on a J serial '89 and all else seems spot on. Need to see it I think. 17 hours ago, Bassassin said: That ain't no Strat... ooh, bad mistake. V nice P - sunburst / tort is the classic finish I think. V nice indeed.
