Poor Anyway I will really enjoy watching this thread progress has to be the best one so far with the possible exception of the Wal thread. I really really want a Sadowsky. Just before I leave, does anyone have both the Metro and NYC bass? I would really like to read an honest comparison/review/opinion of the two. I know everyone says they are the sadowsky if you just want the basic options but cant help wonder if the NYC made by Rogers crew are slightly better. All stunning basses though, love the red one. All stunning basses though, love the red one.[/quote] Pretty Sure that CHRISDABASS has a NYC Sadowsky and a Metro so he will be able to comment on this. Of the 6 I have owned one was a NYC from 1994 so we can discount that but the red one was a 2003 NYC model. The other 4 have all been metro's. I found that there wasn't really any difference BUT there was a tiny part of me that thought the red one was slightly more playable and sweeter sounding. We weren't talking of more than 1% better than the others and it could all have been in my mind as I knew it was an NYC model but it seemed to have something very subtle more than the metros. The end result for me is that I wouldn't pay the extra for the NYC model unless I wanted something that wasn't offered in the metro range because they are all superb. Hope this helps! I am suprised that the Sadowsky has not been replaced by your Skjold as your main bass. Is that because you prefer 4 strings or down to tone or other reasons? Steve[/quote] I think I'm a 4 string guy at heart. Also I'm not sure about the extra scale length of the Skjold. My Sadowsky is so nice that I just keep going for that instead - the Sadowsky lives in my practice room and the Skjold is on a stand in the lounge! Love your new addition BTW. Nice colour. Neil. Glad you finally got round to getting one. Geoff came down to Birmingham to buy an old Fender off me, played the Sadowsky and we agreed he would be better off with one than the Fender :-) That was the rosewood board one, WaveyDavy had that off me about 12 months ago, I would guess he has moved it on but you never know. All stunning basses though, love the red one.[/quote] Ive got to be honest and say that i cant choose between my NYC and my Metro! they're both great basses! they're both very different because of the body/fingerboard woods and pick up positions so its hard to say which sounds better! from a build quality point of view there's nothing in it! not between my 2 anyway! my Metro UV70 is extremely well made!! My advice would be to go to a shop like Guitar Guitar in Newcastle/Glasgow and try the Metros out! if they have one in a colour/wood combo that takes your fancy then there's seriously no need to pay the extra money for an NYC especially now the exchange rate is so bad! geoffbassist Posted January 7, 2009 Share Posted January 7, 2009 the best bit of advice concerning bass buying has to be to try them first, its amazing how different they usually are to what you expect ....when i tried mine i thought i was all set to go for jazz pups but was so blown away by the humbuckers i bought it straight away... i had the same feeling about steves old 4 string!
