I lived in London for 15 years, never had any hand issues. I live near the coast now and almost every time i go for a walk along the coast or on the beach my hands swell up, so could be an environmental reaction - you don't need to touch something to get a reaction.

Just occasionally after a long hard gig, my right hand (plucking one) swells up a little. Usually subsides after an hour or so, and I find running cold water over it helps this.

I think you should probably see your GP rather than taking medical advice on an internet forum. Hand problems can escalate and end up calling time on your playing career if left unchecked.
